well, percy jackson said it in the first book. i mean, he didnt actually said it, but it said in the first book, like: i would probably live till next year, right? assuming the spelling tests or the five paragraph essays didnt kill me.

Chapter 45

Zachary POV

After Halyptia, Percy and Piper finished telling me everything, we went looking for the snake woman.
"Are you sure she stays here?" Percy asked me, as we approached a wrecked house.
"I'm positive." I replied, nervously.
She was very dangerous.
"Okay, everyone get out your weapons." Percy said. Halyptia twisted her diamond belt buckle, and it transformed into a sharp golden sword.
"Woah." I stated, in awe.
Piper took our her dagger and got a small sheild from her backpack.
Percy got out a pen.
"Um.. really?" I asked.
He glanced at me, then smirked. He uncapped his pen and it became a bronze sword.
"Nevermind." I stared in surprise.
Halyptia put her hand down on her bracelet, and it grew into a sheild with spikes.
"Don't I get an awesome weapon?" I asked, as my eyes lit up.
"Sure. You can have.." Percy replied, looking around. He opened his backpack and smiled. "You can have this rope."
"Huh?" I asked, dumbfounded, as he handed the rope to me.
You call this an awesome weapon?
"Fine." I grumbled, as Halyptia hid her smile.
We slowly walked towards the entrance of the house and waited, listening for any noises from the inside. It was completely silent.
It was spooky silent.
"Do you think she's at home?" Piper asked warily.
"Only one way to find out." Halyptia said, kicking the door down. I jumped at the sudden movement.
"Is the creepy lady inside?" I asked.
"Nope." Halyptia replied.
The wind began to blow harder.
"Are you dears looking for help?" A voice called from behind us. We all spun around, fast.
A tall, old lady was standing in front of us, wearing a large cloak that only exposed her head. Her hair was pure white, and it was long and straight. She looked just like the snake woman. But she was standing, so she couldn't have a tail.
I tried to say something, but I was frozen in place.
"What are you doing in this abandoned town?" Percy asked, curiously. He probably knew something wasn't right with the random appearance of the old lady.
The woman cackled.
"I could ask you the same thing, my dear." She croaked.
Then suddenly, she shed her cloak.
The old lady was wearing a black dress, and was standing on her single serpent's tail.
I heard the girls gasp, as bad memories flooded into my mind.
The lady's nails grew into long, metallic claws and her teeth became carnivorously sharp. Her eyes turned a bright red and her pupils became slits.
Percy stepped in front of us all and held out his sword.
"You can't harm anyone until you go through me." He challenged. The lady hissed, her tongue was forked.
"Don't worry boy, I only eat men. Your female friends won't be harmed, but I will transform them into half serpent women!" She said in a new, raspy snake-like voice.
Piper's eyes widened in shock.
"Not unless I kill you first." Percy threatened. Then he ran straight at her, his sword pointed at her heart. The old hag lunged sideways and scratched Percy's arm with her claws. Percy scrambled to his feet and ran at her again. This time she lunged again, but Percy managed to stab her tail.
"Aah!" She screamed in pain. "You insolent child!"
She tried to bite Percy's arm, but he slashed her face with his sword.
"You won't be eating me today, Lamia." Percy said.
"How does he know her name?" I asked Piper confusedly. She scrunched up her eyebrows.
"I don't think it's her name. I read about Lamias once. They were women who were transformed into snake-like or demonic creatures because of the horrid acts they committed. They ate either children or men, depending on the sins they committed." Piper explained, as we watched Percy dodge the Lamia's attacks.
Percy managed to stab the Lamia in her shoulder. She screamed again, louder.
She slowly tried to slither away, but Percy stabbed her again, in the back. With one final scream, the Lamia turned into dust.
A strand of hair was left.
Piper wrinkled her nose, "The hair has magical properties, we should take it." She said.
Halyptia pulled out a small pouch from her backpack, and placed the Lamia Hair inside.
"We should get going, do we have all our things?" Percy asked. Piper nodded.
"Okay, good. I'll call them." He said. Then he whistled.
"Why did you do that?" I asked, confused.
"Well, if you still don't believe that we're demigods, I think this will convince you." Percy smirked.
"What do you mea-" I started to say, but I stopped as soon as I saw four winged horses, flying towards us as the sun began to set.
