Klaus did not want to be just one supe, he wanted to a hybred of both vampire and werewolf, the thing he was ment to be at birth, if not for the curse that the witches bestowed upon him to 'keep the balance' of nature. Von breaking the curse he is now free to be a were-vamp, something nature never intened. Long story short, he wanted to be a were-vamp.
