What's not to like?

I like Damon, dont get me wrong hes a great character, but from the season premiere with Jeremy & Elena the guy has a lot to make up for. I hope he can redeem himself and actually try and understand why Elena hates him instead of joking around, because they had a great friendship and right now with Katherine back I think they really need each other (:

Damon does understand why Elena hates him (as he stated it in the last episode) and I think he jokes around to mask the hurt, and to avoid incredibly awkward moments. It's just his way. And I hope he can redeem himself too, but I think he has a very long way to go.
