We stumbled into the Mission Room of Mount Justice where Batman and Red Tornado were exchanging a silent conversation.
"B-Batman!" Red Arrow rasped.
The Dark Knight turned around to look at us--a disheveled couple who just had the fright of their lives.
"Some girl in a green suit--" I began to say.
"Cheshire," Red added.
"I think someone's trying to assassinate me!" I sagte finally.
Batman looked uncomfortable. "Did Du try your best to keep your secret identity hidden?"
I nodded. "Why wouldn't I?"
He rubbed his chin. "Who else besides other superheroes know your identity?"
I thought for a moment, reviewing my fifteen years of life, and then finally, it hit me.
My family.
"I have to go!" I scrambled to get on my feet, about to fly back the way we came.
Batman seemed to understand. "We'll follow Von bioship."
The flight back to my house seemed endless. All the way I thought about my mother, the only other Airbender in the family. She didn't deserve to die, nobody did.
Finally, I landed in front of our four bedroom townhome and ran inside.
I flicked on the lights. "Hello? Chris? Anna? Vicky?" I walked into the livingroom; the TV was left on. Jimmy Kimmel was signing off for the night.
Chris and Anna loved watching Jimmy Kimmel.
I heard a few noises behind me, but it was just Batman and Red Arrow.
I flew upstairs and went into Victoria's room. The posters of Justin Bieber stared at me from the walls, but no signs of my little sister anywhere.
I went across to Chris's room, but he wasn't there.
Last but not least, was my room. Anna's nail polish was splattered everywhere, making the carpet crispy. The phone line was ripped from the jack--obviously Anna was using it at the time of the kidnapping.
I spotted a yellow sticky note stuck to the middle of my computer screen. I ripped it off and read it.
Nightfury, it read.
I'll be waiting at the docks with your family. I won't kill them IF Du come to me alone, no cops, no Batman.
Du have to be in your civilian clothes. So choose: Your family, oder your identity.
My hands heated up with fire, burning the note. I'd already made my decision. I changed into sweats and a tank top, then went downstairs.
Batman was inserting some evidence into his utility belt, while Red Arrow glanced at the family pictures above the fireplace.
"Where are Du going?" Red asked as I opened the front door.
I sighed. "I have to come alone, oder she'll kill them." And without another word, I flew away.
In a way, I knew she was going to kill me, but I had no idea why. I had this crazy feeling that I would see Mom again. If I died, wouldn't I see her, wherever she went?

I sighed, knowing my destiny now.
