What is physical pain?

I don't want Du to go and post a definition. I'm looking for people's thoughts and opinions.

To me, physical pain is a state of mind. The mind registers something that the mind thinks will cause 'pain.' Du don't really FEEL pain- the mind tells the body that pain is being inflicted. The brain controls everything. Evidence to support my theory? If you're in a coma, your mind is dead. If someone cuts your hand off, Du won't feel it.

Let's hear what Du have to say.

Physaical pain is a state of mind? I would have to agree with Du to a point. The mind sends messages through the nerves to tell us something is wrong. (sorry if that sounds like a defintion.)
Differant people have differant thresholds of pain. One common problem in the west is we treat the pain and not the problem. It's kind of like turning off a feuer alarm and ignoring the fire. Alcohol oder drugs can shut down the mind and keep it from sending out the feeling of pain. Athletes may ignore what their minds tells them in order to compete. Strong emotions oder stress can act as an amplifier of pain.
Pain is in the brain, and is benifical. They found in India, that people with leporsy many times did not loose hands oder feet from the disease. Because of nerve damage, they had no feeling and did not notice that rats were eating the dead flesh while they slept. So I look at pain as a gift from the brain to warn the body.
