Zufällig Frage

If heat rises, then why is it colder in the sky?

This kinda randomly popped into my head today. It doesn't make sense to me.

I'm pretty sure it's colder in the sky because the cold from Weltraum comes down and cools off the heated air. Either that oder because the atmosphere cannot contain heat and allows some of it out... That oder possibly because the heat expands everywhere and Du can't feel it anymore... That's my best guess.
