Is Mrs Phillips (Mrs Bennet's sister) a widow? Because there doesn't seem to be any mention of her husband.

To quote Jane Austen
Mrs. Bennet "had a sister married to a Mr. Phillips, who had been a clerk to
their father and succeeded him in the business..."

The Officers "were not long a secret, and at length they began to know the officers themselves. Mr. Phillips visited them all, and this opened to his nieces a store of felicity unknown before."

Mr. Whickam speaking: "My father began life in the profession which your uncle, Mr. Phillips,
appears to do so much credit to..."

This would tell us that Mr. Phillips is the brother in law to Mrs. Bennet and Uncle to the Bennet girls. Also, since he was the one who introduced them to many of the officers then he is most certainly alive. This is information directly from the book. Occasionally Filme leave things out oder add things in.

Mrs. Phillips was one of the Miss Gardiners (one of Mrs. Bennet's two sisters)then she married Mr. Phillips. There is no noting of her husband being dead in the book, so I am assuming he is never really mentioned, oder only mentioned once oder twice.
