At lunch, Anjanette and Ferdinand sat with Tammy. Tammy wrote down directions to her parents' pet rescue center. Anjanette asked, "Does this place ever rescue Collies?" Tammy replied, "We do have Collies sometimes. In fact, we have a litter right now. They were rescued from a ditch along with their mother." Anjanette said, "That's awesome! I can't wait to tell my uncle the good news." Tammy said, "You live with your uncle? What happened to your parents?" Anjanette began to cry. Ferdinand said, "She's not ready to talk about that just yet. She has been through so much already. She recently started living with her uncle, so her past still hurts." Tammy said, "I'm sorry, Anjanette. I didn't mean to upset you." Anjanette dried her tears and said, "It's all right." Tammy seemed like a nice enough person, but Anjanette wasn't comfortable telling Tammy about the abuse she suffered. Still, Anjanette was excited about the potential of getting a Collie. When she got off the bus, she ran inside to talk to Uncle Bruce.

BingoPB I do too. Poor Anjanette. I think a dog is just what she needs to help her heal from the pain of the abuse she suffered.

RocknRollSoul60 I agree with Kayla. Dogs can be very comforting.

Peaceandlove67 That's true. Dogs are sensitive to human emotion. Collies, German Shepherds, and Shepskies are particularly sensitive to their owners' emotions. That's because they bond so closely with their owners. I can't tell you how many times Fluffy (my late Collie) and Roscoe (my Shepsky) have cried with me.

Rubyrings It sounds like a Collie really is the perfect dog for Anjanette then. I really think getting a dog will be good for her....

Bruce was just sitting down to a midafternoon snack and thinking about calling the school on the other side of town to ask if they could take on Anjanette in the middle of the school year, when he heard an urgent knocking on the door. He went to open it and saw an unfamiliar boy with longish dark hair looking very worried. "Hello," Bruce said, slightly puzzled. "Can I help you?"
"Are Du Anjanette's Uncle Bruce?" the boy replied, sounding very agitated.
"Yes?"
"I'm Ferdinand, a friend of hers from school - I think you'd better come right away! I just walked her Home from school and her parents...."...

As Anjanette worked on her assignment in class, she thought about whether oder not she should tell Ferdinand the truth. She thought, Why waste my time? He'll never believe me. The Weiter morning, Anjanette was still feeling very hurt as she went into the küche to get some breakfast. Her mother was sitting there drinking coffee and eating toast and eggs. She ignored Anjanette, not asking her how she'd slept oder whether she'd like any breakfast. Anjanette silently helped herself to cold cereal, which was all she could find that she knew how to make. She shrunk in her chair as she ate, avoiding her mother's eye.
