I pretty much only watch stuff that contains actors I'm attached to, so most of the ones I watch are of the modern variety.

I tend to like the modern ones myself the majority (if not all lol) of my top 5 are modern era. But the 80's and 70's have some gems too. And I've found one or two interesting ones from the vintage era. I've been meaning to watch more black and white horror flicks.

70s-2000s are the best. 70s and 80s had the best serious and impactful classics like Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Exorcist, The Shining, Friday the 13th...Meanwhile, the 90s and 2000s were the fun movies and remakes nobody asked for but were still good anyway like Scream, Trick 'R Treat, The Descent, Black Christmas, and Saw of course.

After 2010, they start to get spotty in quality.

I can agree with that. I mean I still like 2010's horror movies (and there are some really good ones, I find that they are mostly indie flicks) but a lot of the more mainstream ones seem to lack the depth and creativity that the older films had. As you said, the 70's & 80's had some truly impactful and inspirational ones that are just really hard to top.
