Harry Potter Frage

Do Du think James Potter changed and grew in to better man before his death?

I think even if James does calm down a bit publicly, we are told that in seventh grade the hostilities between James and Severus continue as before. Lily doesn’t get to know about this and she proceeds to marry James after school is finished and to have a family with him. As an adult, James still seems to remain rather arrogant, though. He prefers to trust his old gang of reckless Marauders and their supposed brilliant ideas, rather than accepting Dumbledore’s offer to be Secret Keeper

Well I don't think trusting your Friends with your life is arrogance really, I think having faith in your Friends its actually a good thing :) I know I'd trust my best Friends with my life

I think he probably did to a certain extent. I mean, I'm most definitely not the same person I was in my earlier teens. I was a pretty horrible person, and now I'd like to think I've grown up a bit; after time, most Bewegen on from the sometimes arrogant and rude personality's they had when they were younger.

That being said, I could be completely wrong. He could have died the same classist, jealous asshole he was in school. We won't know until Rowling reveals Mehr about him, I guess. Though personally I don't think even if he did change that I would ever like him. I actually happened to dislike him and Lily quite a lot. I probably shouldn't get into that though :\

I agree, LadyTrancy. I suppose the whole point is that we're meant to believe in one of JKR's great themes: 'redemption', & say, 'His later actions redeemed him', but I don't feel that way. I only saw him as an arrogant bullying eber, wildschwein myself. I suppose it also affects your judgement if Du have actually endured bullying yourself. A decade ago, when I was at school, there were several individuals that used to make things very difficult for me. Recently, I saw in a internet Artikel that one of these bullies (I recognised them Von their very distinctive name) had done a lot to help out in the aftermath of another country's natural disaster. Perhaps this should've changed my opinion of them, but sad to say, it didn't. It irritated me - that those who read the Artikel would praise this person as a 'good' person, a 'humanitarian', & be unaware of the spite they had inflicted on others as a mere child. I don't hold with the view 'they're just kids' if these 'kids' are over eight years old. Von then, Du have some sense of right & wrong & should be held accountable for your actions. So for this rather personal reason, I will always find James a bit of a creep, I'm afraid....

It is kinda ironic that at first we think james potter was amazing man and snape was just obnoxious, and now we think the exact opposite. We have no idea if james became a better man before his death, we don't know if he's not dead he will beg snape for forgiveness and became drinking buddy, but we do know he Liebe and protected his family, he don't care about pure blood prejudice, and he cared about his friend, he prefer to trust his Friends than albus because well he trust them, they are his family, and I know for sure harry will do the same thing if this happened, he will trust ron and hermione before anyone else, so I wanna believe he became a better man after his teenage Jahr and before his death, before any evidence tell the otherwise I wanna believe this.

Um, what happened to my answer??

Okay, from the top:

No, I don't think James changed. For one, he didn't stop bullying Severus. And I'm not talking about "Severus started a fight and James defended himself." That's not bullying. I mean he never stopped actively pursuing and bullying him. A good person would not bully someone period. That's why they're called "bullies" and not "heroes."

Also, a good person would not have hidden the antagonism from the girl he was dating -- especially when sagte person is trying to Zeigen how much he's changed. Lying isn't something a good person does.

James would to have actually changed for him to have become a better person.

None of us are without faults, are we? it's true that James was always obsessed about hating Snape but we shouldn't forget that Snape was mean to James as well.I respect Snape a lot particularly after Lesen the "prince's tALE" part, however we tend to forget the drawbacks of Snape (his fascinations towards dark arts and hatred for james)which we should not.

I agree with Katie that trusting Friends doesn't make one foolish.he trusted his best Friends which proves his true feelings towards them.

keeping aside his feelings for Snape,I personally think he grew up to be a good human being. Let us not forget how he sacrificed his life for Lily &Harry's survival which shows his deep Liebe towards his family. Snape,as Lupin explained to Harry, was a different case.He never stopped trying to curse james so we can't expect James to be ok with it,can we? that doesn't make him a bad person as a whole.

Definitely! One of the things I hope Rowling introduces in Pottermore is the story of James and Lily between the little bits we see in Snape's memories and their deaths!

I think James defeniantly matured a lot before he married Lilly. Just because Lilly didn't know about all the crazy/mean stuff James did, doesn't mean he didn't mature and become a better man. And so what he still trusts his crazy/reckless friends. They are all good men too. They all matured into wonderful men. So, yeah, I think James changed into a better man.

I know we don't know much about James, but from what we're told, I think Harry's Dad is a wonderful man.

Yes, he did. We don't know the full story of what happened, and if Sirius and Lupin could admit that they were idiots, then I bet he could've too. They were 15! The most definitely were not going to be mature! He died for his family as well.

Also, they were his best friends. It's like saying Fred isn't supposed to trust George because he's reckless.
