Can Animagi turn into magical creatures?

I know Animagi can become dogs, rats, etc. But could someone turn into a magical animal? Like a niffler, for example?

but MOST people are regular animals, probably so they can blend in with muggles :)

Agreed. They turn into Mehr average Tiere of a muggle sort so they have an advantage. It would be cool to turn into..I don't know a unicorn, but it wouldn't provide Du with much help.
