EXTREMELY DISRESPECTFUL TO CHRIST JESUS! Christmas is ALL ABOUT THE BIRTH OF OUR SAVIOR JESUS.

Woah, hang on! Before you go ballistic about this, here's a little fun fact for you.

The "-mas" part of "Xmas" is from the Latin-derived Old English word for "mass", while the "X" comes from the Greek letter Chi, which is the first letter of the Greek word Χριστός, translated as "Christ".

In other words, X isn't crossing it out at all...nor is it a sign of disrespect. It's the Greek initial for Christ's name. Xmas is a-okay with me! =)

yeah, kinda. i find any abbreviation more or less wrong though. because it's in most of cases (not all though!) just about 'modern way of talking' which is unnecessary, if you ask me. plus, they spoil the language.
christmas is a different case though because there's a deep meaning in the beginning of word ('Christ') which imo shouldn't be shortened to X, and even though it is logical (according to Dearheart, thanks for the explanation! :)) I still think it is better to keep the classical way of spelling.

I just don't like to see the word "Christmas" being shortened....it does look disrespectful when it is shortened.I think that's because as etie says Christmas is very meaningful to many people.Having said that most of the Christmas cards i receive are signed Happy Xmas,i think that's because we send so many that people do it for quickness....

That's true Berni, sad but true. Let's all take the time to give respect to CHRISTmas ! Let us show the way! Let us be the beacon in showing for others that CHRIST belongs in CHRISTmas ♥

Christ is Christmas. Without Christ- there is not Christmas.

If I HAVE to shorten the word, I say "C-mas".

I guess not disrespectful, but it just looks tactless. It's not X-Mas, it's Christmas.

Actually, some people say the "x" is like "x-ing" as in "crossing."
I do not like it one bit. I don't care where it derived from, it's all about knowing what Christ did.

No, alot of people type/text it just to save space& time, I don't find it disrespectful at all.

Alot of people don't even associate Christmas with Christ anymore, which is pretty stupid IMO, CHRIST-mas.

Considering Christmas was originally a PAGAN holiday and had absolutely NOTHING to do with Jesus until the Romans came along, no.
