I love them both, but Death Note is just a liiiiiiiittle too depressing for me.

I'm not the biggest fan of FMA, but Death Note is my favorite anime. The psychological aspect of it is amazing, the way it tests you and makes you think. I also much prefer the characters; they are more well-written and realistic. It has a more realistic essence to it, overall, in comparison to other anime; it embraces the darkness that is in our world without over-the-top gore (just as an example; many anime series do this) and the fact that all humans are just humans and are equals.. FMA has a beautiful story, I'll give it that, and great villains, too.

FMA does have an amazing story to it, and a lot of great characters, as well, but I prefer Death Note.
