He could easily be lying. But I'd wait, just a tad longer. Maybe have your Friends ask his Friends if he likes you. A boy can be REALLY shy about things they like. For example; my crush did the same thing Du guy's doing. Just last week he had the nerve to talk to me, and when he did, well... only have of it made since. But it made me smile which made him smile which made me smile wider.

Now what I'd do,
1. If he smiles and stares, smile and stare back.
2. Flirt (Probably the best one to do)
3. If he askes Du out ANYWHERE be ssure to say yes as fast as Du can. Even bofore he's finished his sentence. Makes him no you're interested.
4. Make small talk. Small talk grows into a bigger conversation. (Talking's the best thing to do)
5. Finally, if nothing else works... work up the nerve and tell him how Du really feel. He may be urged to do the same.

Ugh, I really hate mix-messages situations. -_- I was in one recently myself with my crush.
So, I read this Frage last night and I've thought about it. It seems like to me that if he hadn't told Du that he likes another girl, that he definitely likes you. If somebody stares and smiles at you, that is a big sign that they like you. But not only did your crush do that, but he also held your hand.

And, yes, sometimes guys lie to throw a girl off. Maybe they want to play things out some more, oder they want to wait and see if the girl they likes really likes him back. oder something. XD Guys can be complicated.

So, okay. XD I think Du should wait a little longer and see what happens. Play things out a little. If he flirts, flirt back. If he smiles at Du smile back (basically what MileySelena982 said), and see how he reacts. I understand that you're shy, because I am too, but when the time comes, Du might want to talk to him about how Du feel. For us shy people, I would do texting over actual talking. BUT, keep in mind, texting is very indirect and he might not reply right away.
If Du want to ask him if he likes you, build up to the conversation first. Like, "hey, I want to ask Du a question, but I don't want anything to be awkward between us." Don't just pop the Frage on him, because it might freak him out and he might lie to you. (again, if he did before)

Also, I think Du should try to find out Mehr information about him secretly. Like, if he likes another girl, find out who the girl is. (But, back to when he sagte that he likes someone, are Du positive that he sagte he likes another girl?) But, don't ask your crush anything through friends. It's way too indirect, and you're just gonna end up even Mehr confused. (Trust me on that one)
