Alana is fun to be with-when she isn't doing make-up oder working for dumb Pearl and her parents. Regardless of thier annoying traits, she still loves her sisters.

And so were Gabriella and the boys. She had won the fight to Flounder's dismay, but they were still best friends.

Maybe, Ariel genuinely cares for Melody as much he cares for her? It seemed like it.
