Chapter Two
Gracie flipped out her cell phone and called her mom.
Ten Minuten later she was at the barn.
“Gracie? Do Du want to talk about what happened?” Julie Evans looked at her daughter in concern as she parked the ranch truck. Gracie had been quiet the whole way home.
“ No thanks. I’ll be fine after I ride.” Gracie muttered and climbed out of the truck. She ignored her mom’s concerned face and entered the bustling barn.
They had one of the biggest boarding stables around. And it was Gracie’s personal heaven. Everything was perfect when she was on horseback. Gracie walked to the tack room. She locked the door and changed into breeches and a tee-shirt. She located her English saddle and grabbed the rest of her tack. She walked quickly to one of her horse’s stall and slid the stall door open.
“ Hey baby.” Gracie crooned to Piper. Since one of the stable hands had groomed her earlier, she was good to go. She quickly saddled her up and led her to one of the indoor arenas. As she walked Von her other horse’s stall, he let out a distressed whinny.
“ Hey, Concho. You’re ok. I’ll ride Du in a little bit, boy.” Gracie continued on until she entered the arena.
She answered the calls of greetings from the other people as they were leaving the arena.
She mounted and snapped her helm on her head. She trotted Piper around in circles to get her warmed up. Once she was warmed up, she aimed her toward the first jump. Three. Two. One. Gracie counted down her paces until Piper soared gracefully over the jump. Gracie executed her crest release and landed with Piper on the other side. Clapping resounded around the arena and Gracie almost gave herself whiplash looking over. Deylin leaned against the wooden rails of the fence surrounding the arena, looking one hundred percent hot.
Gracie, determined to not let this hot guy ruin her workout, cantered Piper over the remaining jumps until she was sweating.
“ Good girl.” Gracie murmured and ran a hand over Piper’s warm white and black neck. She rode her over to the gate and slipped off. Deylin swung the gate open. Gracie walked through without looking at him. He might be hott, but she didn’t have to be a push over.
“ That was amazing, Gracie.” Deylin followed along behind her as she led Piper back to her stall.
“ Thanks.” Gracie muttered and started to untack Piper.
“ Can I do anything to help?” Deylin asked.
Gracie stared at him suspiciously. “No. I got everything.”
Gracie’s temper sparked. How dare this guy blow her off and then Zeigen up here, in her barn, and act like everything was normal.
“ What are Du doing here, Deylin?”
“I just wanted to apologize for leaving Du today.” He said, his tawny eyes momentarily stunning Gracie. She looked away quickly.
“ Its fine. Du had plans before I decided to run Du over and miss my bus.”
Deylin was quiet for a moment. “ Can I ask Du a question?”
Gracie looked up at him in surprise. “Yeah I guess so.”
“ Do Du ride like that all the time?” He nodded toward her clothes and Gracie flushed with embarrassment. She had forgotten that she had breeches on.
“ Oh. Um, no. This is Piper. She’s my English horse. My other horse, Concho, is western. I jump with Piper, but I barrel race with Concho.”
Deylin grinned over at her.
“ Du do know that I have no clue what that means right?”
Gracie couldn’t help but smile back. “Maybe Du could stick around and watch.” She suggested.
Deylin grinned but suddenly he reached into his pocket.
“ Actually, I forgot. I have to go pick up Jeremiah and DJ from football.” Deylin said, as he texted someone. “And then we have a party to go to.”
“ Oh.” Disappointment flooded Gracie. “How did Du even know where I was?”
“ Oh I followed Du when your mom picked Du up.” Deylin answer distractedly.
Gracie felt her temper spiking again.
“ Well I’m sure Du can find the exit yourself.” She snapped
Deylin nodded. “ Yeah ok. Ill catch Du later Gracie.”
Not if she could help it.
He turned and walked out of the barn.
Gracie didn’t even realize that Piper was un tacked all ready. She led her slowly back to her stall. Piper nuzzled her gently as Gracie slid her halfter off.
“ Du were a good girl. You’re lucky that Du cant get your herz broken Von any stupid boys.” Gracie slipped out of the stall and headed toward Concho’s. Riding hard and fast would help ease some of the pain. Gracie tucked a strand of long, wavy auburn hair behind her ear. As much as she didn’t want to, she felt a tear slip down her cheek. She knew her grey eyes would be tinted with blue, like they always did when she cried. She had been Schauspielen stupid, trying to make herself believe that he might actually notice her after today. As she slipped into Concho’s stall, she ran a hand down his silky Grulla coat, and made a promise to herself. She would forget about Deylin Davis if it was the last thing she did.
