Mystique (a.k.a. Raven Darkholme) is an adult. She is a shape-shifter who can infiltrate even the most heavily guarded areas. (Note: Although she can assume any shape, she cannot emulate anyone's powers.)
Ever the master manipulator, Mystique has gotten her way Von disguising herself as the principal of Bayville High, Rogue's friend Risty, and several others along the way. Mystique seldom works alone. Rather, she surrounds herself with the most powerful thugs she can muster, usually conning them in the process. She always has a hidden agenda.
Unfortunately for Mystique, she finally ran across someone that was even Mehr cunning than herself. In an effort to protect Rogue and herself from the dire fate that Destiny warned her of, she teamed up with Mesmero. Mesmero promised her that they would be safe, sicher if they helped him to free Apocalypse. So, forcing Rogue against her will, the three of them traveled to Apoc's tomb. When it came time for Mystique to do her part, she was betrayed and the process turned her to stone.
Xavier did everything within his power, but he knew of nothing to save her. Nightcrawler took her to Agatha Harkness hoping that she would be able to cure her. Agatha let him know that only Rogue could save their mother. Nightcrawler tried to talk Rogue into helping Mystique, but Rogue had been betrayed Von her mother and after all she had been through she couldn't take anymore and snapped. In a fit of rage, Rogue shoved the stone Mystique over a cliff and Mystique shattered.
