“Oliver? Where are you?” I cried from the oben, nach oben of the stairs. “I don’t want to play anymore. Just come out!”
I heard nothing. “Oliver?!” I heard the rattling of the living room window, so I raced down the stairs and headed through the door into the living room.
“Oliver. I don’t like this game can we play something else…” I started saying.
Then I saw the stranger in our house. He was leaning over my older brothers body, who was now on the floor, his head lolling in the strangers hands.
“Oliver?” I asked, tears welling in my eyes.
The man glanced back at me, and got up, leaving Oliver on the floor. I looked at my brother, lying there lifelessly. Then I looked at the tall man.
“Who are you?” I asked, cowering away from him.
Blood was dribbling down his mouth, and I saw his long teeth come down to his chin.
I screamed and looked Oliver. He had two punctures in his neck.
“You’re a… you’re a… vampire!” I screamed, collapsing onto the floor.
The tall man laughed at me as I cowered down, covering my ears. The man looked at me, and I saw something evil glimmer in his eyes. Something indescribable, but so evil I couldn’t imagine.
Then with a toothy grin at me, he returned to my brother, picked him up, and flew out of the window with him.
I got to my feet and started screaming for my big brother.
“Oliver! Oliver!” I started to cry. “Oliver!”

“Look good, be confident.”
That’s what Kayla had told me as she leant against my wall, inspecting me from head to toe before I left that morning.
“Now, Du have the good looks down pat. But confidence? Come on Blaze! Strut your stuff, darling,” she sagte laughing. “Now, go Zeigen those little tramps what your made of!”
I looked up at her and smiled.
She pulled a stupid face at me, bearing her pearly white teeth, and rolling her eyes into the back of her head.
“God, Kayla, you’re so weird!” I laughed, pulling on a strand of her long blonde hair. “Hey, how come Du don’t get yours cut?”
She looked at me, her face normal again. “Because it Suits Du better! Now, get to school you, Du have stuff to do.”
I rolled my eyes and started towards the door.
She shouted after me, “Don’t forget what I told you!”
“Yeah, yeah. Look good blah, blah, blah.”
I walked out the door and headed in the direction of school, my worst nightmare.
I kept my head held high as I trotted through the school gates, fully aware of the gazes of every student at Bluebill High on me. I managed to have a quick glance at the people I had been going to school with for the last four years.
None of them recognised me.
Maybe it was because of my new hair, oder just my new look all together. oder maybe its because none of them had gegeben me a Sekunde glance before today.
I smiled to myself.
I took another look at the people staring at me. Well, one thing was for sure. They were definitely staring at me. Especially the guys. The were leering at me. Like they were mentally undressing me.
I shuddered in the warm, summer morning. Ew.
Seriously, that’s disgusting. The thought of the grease balls at my school looking at me like that, actually made me want to throw up my breakfast. And yesterdays meals.
I admit it, no guy has ever actually looked at me in that kind of way, but I never actually wanted any of them to. With the exception of one.
Then, out of nowhere, something flew through the air and hit me on the back of my head. Surprised Von the sudden attack - which I should really be used to - I fell to the floor. I quickly looked around, expecting to see the masses of teenagers laughing at me, but all I saw was a sea of worried faces.
Me? They were worried about me? Little old Blaze Piper who never gets noticed? Blaze Piper who sits at the back of the classroom, who has no friends? They were worried about me? Wow.
I was getting up when I felt someone rush to me, and place their hands under my elbows helping me to my feet. I slowly brushed myself off before turning around to see who my helper was.
“Tha-” I started, but then saw who exactly who my ‘helper’ was.
I cleared my throat. “Thank you, Freddie.”
Freddie Liam Jones. My best and only friend - excluding Kayla. And, the only guy I had ever been in Liebe with. Hopelessly. Only he’d never noticed how much I Liebe him, because he was always too busy chasing after some other girl.
“Blaze?” He spluttered, looking stunned.
He was looking me up and down, half shocked, half approving, with his mouth gaping a little. He started at my feet, then his gaze wandered up my bare, tanned legs, over my skirt, and then his eyes flickered up at my burning auburn hair, which was now framing my face, instead of hiding it.
After a Minute of silence, he closed his mouth, and his gorgeous brown eyes settled on my own baby blues.
“Wow, Piper. Du haven’t half changed!” He laughed, glancing at my body again. “What happened? It’s only been three weeks since we last spoke!”
He laughed again, running one of his hands through his tousled blonde hair. An obvious sign of nervousness.
Freddie was nervous about talking to me? We’ve been Friends since nursery!
I laughed lightly. “God, Jones. Don’t Du ever listen to me?” I punched him lightly on the arm. “I went to the Caribbean, didn’t I?”
“Oh yeah,” he grinned, coughing a little.
Then, as if realising what his purpose of talking to me was, he looked around the floor and picked up the object that had hit me over the head. His football.
“Sorry about that,” he sagte smiling ruefully.
I smiled at him. “Oh, it’s ok. I’ll only have a huge lump there tomorrow!”
We both laughed, and I turned to walk away. Before I could, he reached out and grabbed my wrist.
“Hey, Piper. I wasn’t finished with you,” he sagte smiling sheepishly. “Um, I was wondering, if you’d want to go out with me tonight? To the cinema oder something?”
He ran his other hand through his hair again. I smiled, glanced down at his hand still around my wrist, and then looked up at his face from beneath my eyelashes.
“Sure, why not?” I sagte with a little wink.
He grinned. “So it’s a date? I’ll pick Du up at seven, you’d better be ready!”
“Aren’t I always?” I laughed.
“Well, tonight will be different,” he sagte with his amazing smile.
Then he gently let my wrist flop to my side, and he turned, throwing his football to his friends. He ran in the same direction, with a few glances back at me, as if to make sure I was watching him.
I grinned. Freddie has finally noticed that I’m a girl.
Still smiling, I wandered in the direction of my first class, and managed to make it there only two Minuten late.
Everyone stared at me as I walked into the maths room, and I thought about turning around and walking back out.
Look good, be confident.
I kept my head up, breathed out, and headed towards the back of the room. Until I noticed that my usual sitz was now occupied. Sighing, I looked around the classroom for an empty seat.
“Blaze!” someone sagte behind me. “Come and sit here.”
Without looking who it was, I slid silently into the chair being offered to me.
Then, when the teacher began to talk, I relaxed and leant back in my chair, pictures of Freddie Küssen me filling my mind. After all these years, he’s finally shown some romantic interest in me.
I sighed a little. We’ve been going to the cinema together for years. As friends. He’s never tried anything. Yeah, we’ve held hands, but I was always just a friend to him.
I’d thought about telling him how I feel. A lot. The right moment would never come up, and when it did, he had to ruin it Von talking about some girl he’d met oder something.
I can’t blame him. He’s tremendously good looking. No wonder girls cant keep away from him.
‘Well, tonight will be different.’ What does that mean? Does he actually like me? Maybe I actually had a chance with the only guy I had ever loved.
I smiled. Even if he did return my feelings, its not like we would be able to have a stable relationship. Me not being around half the time, and putting my life in danger. Anyway, I cant fit a boyfriend into my lifestyle! I have too much to do. Freddie would just complicate things.
God, just Von going out with him, I could be putting him into danger too…
I heard a chuckle beside me, startling me out of my thoughts. I looked across at the person Weiter to me, to find them smiling warmly at me. It was one of the guys from Freddie’s football team. Harry, I think.
“In your own little world,” he sagte softly.
I looked away from his big, friendly grin, and looked at my work instead. Which, undoubtedly looked like a mass of squiggles and numbers on a piece of paper.
Harry chuckled again, and pulled his chair closer to mine. He reached out and slid my work closer to him, and he started explaining it to me.
God, he wears way too much cologne. He smells like he bathed in it. I gagged a little, and tried to concentrate on the work he was explaining to me.
Then something hit me. Not literally.
Why was one of the football team being nice to me? This isn’t normal. In fact, its very, very weird. Not one of the football team - other than Freddie - has ever spoken one word to me. Ever.
I glanced around the room to see if anyone else thought Harry’s behaviour was peculiar, but anyone who I caught eyes with, just smiled at me.
People who had avoided talking to me for years, were now smiling at me. Do I seriously look like a new kid?
Harry recognised me, and Harry was as dumb as a door nail in every subject. Except in maths, it seems.
At the end of the lesson, I tried to get Harry off my back, but he walked along with me to my Weiter lesson, then as soon as we were at the door, he waved to me, and walked off to his own lesson.
I shook my head and went into my lesson, happy that Harry wasn’t in this one too.
I was even happier when I saw who was sat at the back, all Von his self. He was staring mindlessly out of the window, and he didn’t notice me take the sitz Weiter to him.
I waited a Minute before clearing my throat. His head spun around.
“Blaze!” he sagte happily.
I smiled at him. “How’s it going, daydreamer?”
He smiled back. “I was just thinking about tonight.”
I felt a twang in my chest. “Oh?”
“Yeah. I think it’s going to be a night to remember,” he said, looking me straight in the eye.
TWANG! Ok, I think my herz strings have officially snapped.
I coughed. “Why’s that?” I asked, hopefully.
“Well, I’m taking this really amazing girl to the cinema and I think I might--”
“Mr. Jones, Miss. Piper. Sorry to intrude on your conversation, but we are here to learn not to talk!” a bald fat teacher shouted from the front.
“Sorry, sir,” Freddie said.
“Sorry, sir,” I mumbled, trying to think what Freddie was about to say.
I think I might what?! Oh, my god I hate school.
I looked at Freddie questioningly, but he wouldn’t look back. He kept his head vorwärts-, nach vorn as if he was listening to the fat bald man at the front who was talking about some sort of bacteria.
Damn you, school.
The rest of the Tag was a blur. I stayed with Freddie, and the other football players for the rest of it, but Freddie never mentioned what he might do.
And the funny thing was, everyone was being nice to me. Especially the football team. It wasn’t just Harry.
When id stayed with Freddie at breaks and lunches before, none of them had even acknowledged me. But now, they were all talking to me as if we’d been Friends for years.
Freddie walked me Home after, with his arm draped across my shoulders, where it had been for the last few hours whenever we were outside of a lesson.
“Well, ill see Du in a few hours,” he sagte smiling when we reached my door.
Then he turned away with a big grin, and walked away.
I opened the door and leant against it when I was inside, letting the Tag register properly in my mind. I think I must have talked to Mehr people today, than I have in my entire school life.
“Blaze? Is that you?” I heard Kayla ask from somewhere within the house.
I walked into the küche to find her sat at the tabelle with a cup of tee and a magazine.
“Why aren’t Du at work?” I asked, taking the sitz beside her.
“I closed up early, because there were no Mehr bookings, and I couldn’t be bothered with the walk-ins,” she smiled. “And besides, I’d rather listen to Du talk about what happened at school than cut some granny’s hair.”
I laughed at her. There were only two people in this world that really understood me, Kayla being one of them. She used to live across the straße from me, when my parents were alive.
After they were murdered, she took me in, and we went to go live in the new house she’d bought. She’d believed me.
Unlike the police. The police just thought I was some deranged five-year old.
“So, come on then. What happened?” she asked now, eager to know.
So I told her. Every little detail. She was a shocked as I was, laughed and squealed at the appropriate times.
“See, I told you! All Du need is the looks and confidence, darling!” She sagte after I’d finished.
I smiled up at her, happier than ever.
Later that night, I sat in my room watching the Minuten go by. I was dressed in another rock and a vest top. Kayla sagte it was important to look nice, but not to dress up too much oder it might look as if I’m trying too hard.
I laid back on my bett and sighed happily. I cant believe I’m finally going on a datum with Freddie. I seriously cant. I glanced at the clock again. Ten Minuten to go.
I felt gans bumps appear on my arm, and the room became colder. I looked up and saw my bedroom window open. I went over to it and looked into the dark night before closing it.
I turned around and nearly walked into the tall masculine figure that was standing directly in front of me.
“Bloody hell!” I breathed, clutching my chest. “Scare me, why don’t you?”
“That was the idea,” he snarled in an unpleasant voice.
“Look, I’m not in the mood for this tonight. Can we do this some other time? I have plans.” I sagte pushing past him.
“You cant ask death to wait, Blaze,” he sagte grasping my upper arm.
I spun around and looked my visitor right in the eye. “Who sent you?”
He laughed. “Take a wild guess.”
“Well, I have a lot of enemies, but Von the look of you…” I sagte noting his features and build. “I’d say you’re a gift from Oliver.”
Oliver had always had the habit of picking tall, very muscular, meaty guys to kill me. This one looked around twenty, and would be moderately good looking if it wasn’t for his big nose and the fact that his eyes were too close together.
I always new instantaneously whether my visitors were from Oliver oder one of my many other enemies. Du don’t exactly get a lot of Friends doing the business I do.
“Well done!” he laughed evilly. “So, you’re not as dumb as he says.”
I raised my eyebrow at his poor attempt to get me angry.
“Anyway, as nice as this was, I’m going to have to ask Du to leave. I don’t have time to kill tonight.”
He laughed at that. “I’m afraid Du wont be the one killing tonight,” he sagte stepping into the light and extending his long white teeth, his red-ish eyes glistening.
I raised my eyebrow again.
“Well, Oliver didn’t send Du after me for your brains now, did he?” I sagte with a bored expression.
He narrowed his eyes at me. “What do Du mean?”
“Well, if you’re going to do this, then Du might as well do it somewhere other than my bedroom. I mean, at any moment my friend, oder my datum could walk in here and catch Du here,” I yawned.
He recoiled for a second, then laughed, his teeth retracting back into his mouth.
“How stupid do Du think I am?” he asked with an evil grin. “Of course, I was planning on taking Du somewhere. What do Du take me for?” he coughed.
I smirked.
His red-ish eyes darkened suddenly. I jerked my arm out of his cold grasp, and turned away from him. I sat leisurely on my bed, leaning on my hands with my legs swinging a little.
“So,” I sagte with a smile at him. “Do I get any messages? Du know, from my lovely brother?”
The monster grimaced. “Oliver doesn’t like being associated with humans, other than for food. Meaning, he’d prefer it if Du stopped saying that you’re…” he looked disgusted at the thought of what he was about to say. “… his sister.”
“Why? What’s wrong with little old me?” I joked, winking.
He descended on me quickly, and before I knew it, his face was in front of mine. “It’s not right for a vampire to be related to… to… vermin!” he hissed in my ear.
I smiled warmly up at him. “So no messages then?”
“Um, yeah,” he sagte standing up, and reaching into his pocket. “Something like ‘From me to you, have fun with this one,’” my intruder sagte Lesen from the screwed up piece of paper he’d retrieved from his jeans.
I nodded, knowingly.
He coughed. “Um, what exactly does that mean?” he asked looking a little confused. “You know, ‘have fun with this one’?”
I smiled at him again and rose up off the bed, slowly walking towards him. He stepped back cautiously, but I kept coming vorwärts-, nach vorn until he was backed up against the wall. He looked down at me, very, very confused.
“Well, its kind of embarrassing,” I sagte in a sickeningly sweet voice.
His eyes widened a little, and I heard him gulp. “Go on, Du can tell me.”
I placed one of my hands on his chest flirtatiously, and looked up at him with my ‘goo-goo’ eyes. Then, without warning, I swung my other arm round and drove a wooden stake into his upper arm.
“I kind of torture and kill all of the Vampire he sends to murder me,” I sagte in the same sickening voice, still smiling. “But, I don’t really have time tonight, so Du can be one of the lucky few who skip the torturing, and I’m just going to go ahead and kill you.”
His eyes had gotten very wide, and his mouth was gaping in shock. He was staring down at the stake impaled in his arm, blood seeping out of him.
I laughed. “You should really pay Mehr attention to your victims, honey. I got it while I was on the bed. It was tucked nicely under my pillow. I have them stashed everywhere.”
He still looked shocked and wouldn’t take his eyes of the stake.
“You know,” I sagte standing on my tip toes so I was hissing the words into his ear. “In case I get any vermin in my room!”
One the word ‘vermin’, I took my stake out of his arm, and drove it into him again, this time just below his shoulder blade. He cried out on pain, and keeled over a little.
I took a step back, and slowly reached for my stake.
He moved his head sharply, and I felt a burst of pain surge through my wrist. He released me from his grip and I jerked my arm out of his reach. He looked up at me, his eyes burning brightly, his teeth fully extended and blood dripping from his mouth. He smiled and straightened up.
There was still blood seeping from the two gaping holes in his arm but he didn’t seem to notice.
I held onto my arm, pain surging through it, but I tried not to let it show. I stepped vorwärts-, nach vorn a little and pulled my stake out from his shoulder.
He winced a little, but his eyes were fixed firmly on me. He glanced down at his new injuries, but then straight back at me.
"Time for a trip, little lady," he sagte smirking.
To be continued... oder maybe not :)
