Sincerely, it's like the same thing when newsletters\newscasters say "playing videogames leads to free violence"; Genocide is bad, sure, but if someone plays this route does not mean it's necessarily heartless or a serial killer.

2. if no one played the genocide route, we would never know what happens if we do

Agreed it doesn't make them a serial killer of course, and I have friends who plan on doing it, but I think in order to murder tons of lovable humanoids when you could befriend them, even if it's not real, you have to become a bit 'heartless'. I personally could NEVER do it.
