What is up with edward and bella are they still together in new moon?

I'm guessing Du didnt read the book? At the very beginning they are but after her birthday party that ended badly, Edward decides that its too dangerous for Bella if they stay together and leaves Bella and Forks along with his family. Bella's friendship with Jacob starts to turn into something else but she really knows that her herz and life belong to Edward. They get back together at the end of New Moon when Bella saves Edward from killing himself in Italy.
