Damon did get bitten Von Tyler, thats why Klaus did not use him for ritual. The way he was bit also plays a lot into how he is saved.

However Du can't just "cheat" such thing as this ritual and in the end both Elena and everyone involved will pay the price for Elena's continued existence

im confused...so the sacrifice doesnt happen in the finale? i know delena Liebhaber are really excited about the prospect of a kiss, but its such a betrayal to stefan, he will be so hurt...and i know damon Fans will point out how much pain damon has been through and how? he deserves some happiness...but i just think the dreieck is a sucky situation for both brothers and it makes me mad elena would play them both Von Küssen damon.
