Need help working an antique sewing machine

I just inherited an antique sewing machine a Singer 338 and it didn't come with the owners manual I think I have managed to thread it correctly but every time I start to sew something the threads underneath get all Rapunzel – Neu verföhnt I've been trying it on my own for a few days so any help would be appreciated.
