He TRIED to do right, but like makintosh said, he was manipulated by his wife. Not only is Fanny a hardcore bitch, but she's ugly and has the most annoying voice (in the 1995 version).

I have no respect for John BECAUSE he let his wife manipulate him. Fanny is intelligent and knows what she wants which i can at least respect.

Went with John of the two - though I dislike them both. He was weak ... and couldn't even honor his father's dying wish because he was a puppet which his wife easily manipulated. Part of me suspects he had no intention of taking care of his stepmother and sisters ... and told Fanny in a way that he knew she would talk him out of it. As the man in that period, he had control over his money. He just wanted to keep his father's money/property all to himself.

Although he is easily manipulated, he is not the evil mastermind with all the ready-made cruel insults and selfishness his wife possesses. He is the lesser of two evils. Still not the greatest, because he agrees with his wife, but his wife's actions are not his own, he just acts upon her ideals.

I hate both, but John is brother Elinor, Marianne and Margaret and I can't forgive him his behaviour. Fanny manipulated him and he let her do it. Of course, Fanny is also terrible.
