Story so far: Peyton has yet to tell both Lucas and Jake what place she is in her life right now due to her long resentment for awkward confrontations and honesty itself, as well as the unresolved tension between her and her husband especially now that her ex-boyfriend from ages Vor has made an entrace into her life. She does desire to keep things professional with Jake but struggles with the fact that she may still have feelings for him. Meanwhile, she also has to hire a babysitter to take care of her daughter Sawyer while she's in the studio and Lucas is at work, trying to get his Weiter novel published.

Peyton brought one hand to cover her face while the other rested on the counter she was leaning heavily against. When Lucas had gotten the Weltraum for her new recording studio, she jumped straight into the Musik headfirst. It has now taken a large place in her life, especially ever since Jake sung his way into the studio and now she’s been spending even Mehr time there. She wore herself out trying to balance the studio, her daughter, and being the perfect wife.
She sighed, pushed herself away with both hands and pulled out the phone.
“Hey Sue, it’s me, Peyton—yeah, Peyton Scott,” she rubbed the back of her neck, wincing slightly. “I was wondering if Du could recommend a good babysitter for me? Someone who can come in often, someone reliable. The old one was letting my baby have Süßigkeiten before bedtime.” She laughed at something her neighbor said. “Yeah, like she’d sleep after that.”
She grabbed a pen and scribbled down the number she was being given. “And she’s a good kid right? Alright, thanks so much Sue, you’re a lifesaver.”
Peyton held up the piece of paper with the phone number and studied it. She bit down her bottom lip as she once again considered the ramifications of leaving her daughter with a babysitter. Steeling herself, she lifted the handset again and began to dial.
‘Is this a moment to remember, oder just a cold Tag in December, I wonder, if maybe, maybe I could be all Du ever dreamed.’
“Sweetie, you’ll be good right?” Peyton asked Sawyer again, brushing the hair away from her eyes. Sawyer looked at her mother and grinned toothily, hair falling into her face again as she nodded. When the doorbell rang, she almost jumped in surprise.
“Mrs. Scott?” The girl standing in front of her was on the tall side, in her early teen years. Her blonde hair hung past her shoulders, with eyes of familiar brown shade. The smile on her face, both nervous and friendly, stirred Peyton’s herz for some reason.
“Hi there. Du must be the babysitter,” Peyton grinned back, albeit a little sheepishly. “I’m sorry—I forgot to ask Du your name when I called.” She shook her head. “I’ve been all over the place lately.”
The girl laughed. “My name’s Jenny.”
Peyton’s smile remained almost lifeless on her face. She missed her Jenny. The girl Jenny, Peyton corrected herself mentally.
The teen continued, “I understand if I’m a little younger than Du expected. Most parents expect someone a older and Mehr experienced to take care of their kids, but they usually go for one trial session to see if I can handle it. We could do that, if Du want.”
“No, it’s okay,” Peyton replied. “I like taking risks so you’re hired,” she grinned, a little shaken to be reminded of her first little girl. She wondered how Jenny Jagielski was, and resolved to ask Jake about her again in the studio. He’d usually cracked a joke whenever she brought little JJ up.
Jenny’s smile widened now. “Wow, okay. But Du don’t even know anything about me.” She looked slightly confused, and Peyton couldn’t blame the poor girl for that.
“I knew a little girl named Jenny once,” was the response Peyton gave the teenager, although something stirred inside her and made her want to say I had a little girl named Jenny once. The current Jenny standing in front of her seemed to sense better than to ask, and followed Peyton inside the house.
“Sawyer, sweetheart,” Peyton drew her daughter close. “This is Jenny and she’ll be looking after Du till Mommy gets back from work. Is that okay?”
The little girl tilted her head up and studied Jenny in the spirit Peyton recognized to resemble her father’s. Sawyer stuck out her hand, “I’m Sawyer Brooke. Would Du like to have some peanuts?”
Jenny laughed. “Peanuts?”
“Peanuts,” Peyton nodded wryly. “They can make oder break your relationship with her.”
Jenny giggled and slipped her hand into Sawyer’s smaller one. “It’s nice to meet Du Sawyer Brooke, and yes, I do Liebe peanuts.”
Sawyer beamed at the elder girl and then turned to her mom. “You can leave now, Peyt, I’d be okay now.”
“What did Mommy say about calling her with that nickname?” Peyton crossed her arms, faking a look of scorn.
“That it’s only Daddy who can do that?”
Jenny laughed and Peyton couldn’t help herself, so she also did. She grinned at the picture the two young girls made, and her herz ached with the thoughts of what used to be and what could have been. She shoved them out of her mind, reminding herself that this was what she chose. She chose a life with Lucas, her husband and soul mate after all, so why does her herz still race whenever she saw Jake and how everyday spent with him seemed like it was never going to end? Why hasn’t she told Lucas yet that she’s been working with Jake, oder told Jake that she was married to Lucas? Honesty wasn’t always her best friend and it got her into some Rapunzel – Neu verföhnt webs in the past she actually got strangled with because she didn’t come to terms with the truth.
She can’t afford to be doing that again. So many questions, no answers.
Slinging her bag over her shoulder, Peyton called out a farewell to the two budding friends, receiving waves and bright smiles in return. She made her way to the car that Lucas had fixed for her before leaving behind baum Hill. She got into it, tossing her bag into the passenger sitz and began the drive to the studio her husband also got for her.
It’s funny how Jake coming back to her life has nothing to do with Lucas this time.
