There is so much potential that they could do with this character! First of all they could have had the Ariel finding Eric thing be an allusion. There could be a season of Ariel trying to find Eric and everyone tries to help her and they could even have Ursula be the villain. Maybe they could even make one of Ariel's sisters the villain. The seasons usually focus on a main couple. Season 1 it was Snow and Charming, season 2 it was Rumple and Belle with some of Emma and Neal, season 3 part A it was both Emma and Neal and Emma and Hook, and in season 3 part b it's Regina and Robin Hood. A season could focus on Ariel and Eric and it would make their relationship more developed. It's an amazing opportunity.

They could go into depth about how Ariel became the way she is with humans and how she dared to break the mold of mermaids being heartless murderers like the show has us believe. We could also find out why the mermaids murder sailors for no apparent reason.

We could also see the relationship between Ariel and her father, King Triton. Along with that we could see her kingdom and where she comes from, find out if she really is a princess. Also explore the relationship with her mother. There's so much potential with this character they could do! I would absolutely DIE if Ariel became a main character. If Belle could become a main character why can't she?

No. Ariel has always been low on my list. And I don't like her in this series either. Something about her irritates me

I really like her, she's so funny and adorable, but I think that there are already way too many main characters. They don't get enough screen-time even now. Like, for example, we've had so little of Belle this season lol. I think I would prefer to stop adding people to the mix (but since I'm fond of Ariel, I wouldn't really mind if it was her).
And also, great secondary characters are so important and add so much to a show. And Ariel is one of our best secondary characters now. I wouldn't like ending up with more main characters than secondary ones haha.

Like her so much but they waste her potentiel.. And we have too many main character, I prefer the fact they add the Knave.
