O.K. I totally agree with THIS @ zanhar1 but I think his action was anything but sweet!

It was pointless ( I mean what was his contribution to the whole task? It turned out that Regina didn't want his assistance or help with anything - and he definitely knew already what Regina was capable of...did he thought that maybe Regina was another damsel in distress? Well I highly doubt that! Robin seems like a smart guy to me so what was the point? )

Plus it was careless & stupid ( how could he just leave his son after the incident with the Evil Flying Monkey? And if anything had happened to him while he was away? How could he not think of Roland? Would he want his boy to be an orphan missing both his parents?)

I think he just wanted to offer her something, be it company or help, as a way of showing his appreciation for helping his son. He probably felt comfortable leaving his son because A) Roland is with a huge group of people and the rest of his Merry Men. Even if Roland wasn't with them, Robin wouldn't have left Roland unless he was sure his son was safe, and B) He's convinced that the flying monkey was after Regina, not Roland.

Plus it's possible that he feels a strange connection with Regina and he used going with her as an excuse to get to know her a little bit more.
