Set sometime in classical Japanese history, Ōkami combines several Japanese myths, legends and folklore to tell the story of how the land was saved from darkness Von the Shinto sun goddess, named Amaterasu, who took the form of the white wolf.

It earned high acclaim from MANY reviewers and earned, among other awards, the Titel of IGN's 2006 Game of the Year.

However, after its release, Von March 2007, the total sales of the PlayStation 2 version was only 270,000. Von comparison, Ōkami sold only 66,000 copies in Japan for 2006.
