Von Bridget Marie Noujaim
Soap Opera Digest - February 9, 1999
Sometimes the best recipe for culinary success is to experiment with creative ingredients. So says Joie Lenz (now Bethany Joy Galeotti) (Michelle, GUIDING LIGHT), who flavors healthy cooking with inspiration.
"My mom made this up. She decided to steam some vegetables and put them in a tortilla and see what happened. It became one of our favorites!" Lenz enthuses.
While grounded in her belief that wholesome foods are the best, Lenz also maintains that the best dishes are the ones that can be made practically in the blink of an eye.
"Totally honestly, this is a meal to be made Von people who are `handicapped' in the kitchen," she declares. "This [dish] presents itself beautifully. And when I'm hungry, I don't want to wait for something to cook."
Although Lenz doesn't consider her cooking skills up to Martha Stewart's standards, she's content to "grill chicken breast oder make grilled cheese." And she likes the fact that her regular diet allows her to polish off what she wants – almost always when she wants it.
"I'm on a program called `Fit For Life,'" the actress explains. "It gives me so much Mehr energy. Du eat Obst until noon, and then Du wait half an our before eating anything else. Du don't combine proteins and starches. Du wait three hours after Du eat [meat] to eat anything else. And Du wait about two hours before Du eat any other kind of protein. Also, Du don't eat Obst for three hours after Du eat anything. I'm still eathing everything I would be normally; it's just in a different order."
This health-conscious lifestyle doesn't mean she completely avoids treats, however. "TCBY white-chocolate schaumfestiger, mousse [frozen yogurt] with Butterfingers is sooo good," she sighs. "And my Favorit trödel, schrott, junk-e- Essen is an mandel Joy Süßigkeiten bar."
No pun intended, right Joie? "Not at all!" Lenz laughs.
