Part_of_the_sky Nobody is forcing homophobes to abandon their opinions The people who bash homophobic people are mainly bashing the ones who make comments and hateful actions that ruin the esteem of gays.

r-pattz [i]If they dont like us, thats their choice.[/i] If it is a choice to be homophobic, as you say it is, then that means that their minds can be changed. If you make a choice to believe something you can switch that belief to something else. Arguing with homophobes, then, could change their minds, right? Maybe, maybe not. But the maybe yes is what would make arguing worthwhile. However, I'm not entirely sure homophobia is a choice. I think for the most part it is not, it may be more the result of a homophobic society in which the word "gay" used to be (and to an extent still is) a taboo term that was not to be mentioned around children. And if that's the case, then it's still worth arguing with homophobes because a little breakthrough is all that's needed. All trees start with seeds, right? So if you just plant a little seed in someone's mind that maybe gay isn't bad, even if homophobia isn't a choice someone could still become less homophobic over their lifetime, and maybe their children would be a little less hateful as well. And most of the time, when queers or people who support LGBTQ rights go against homophobes, it's not because we're hating on those homophobes. It's more a case of just trying to get them to realize that we are no less human than they are. The thing is though, that gets frustrating. It gets tiring, it can make you feel like shit, it can make you want to curse off the entire world or go cry in corner, and maybe that's when you start to get hateful towards homophobes. I'm not saying that hating them is right... just that it's hard to help. I'm contradicting myself, aren't I? Well, to sum up this little rant paragraph I'll just say that LGBTQ supporters aren't so much hateful as frustrated. On the [i]we cant make everybody love us because we love us[/i] thing, personally I'm not asking for love, and I don't think most queers are. Acceptance is what I want. Not merely tolerance, and not love either, but acceptance. That's the goal of the gay rights movement. Now the girl getting beat up, that was definitely extreme, but cases like that don't happen often. Actually, that's the first time I've ever heard of something like that happening at all. But most supporters of queer equality aren't so extremist and blind as that. And we need to argue, we do. We need to fight homophobia any way we can because that ignorance destroys people.

ImBooOK Its their choice to not 'accept' gays. Being a Homophobe, it can be a choice because maybe they dont like them or its what they where born and raised that made them think or belive what they do. So yes they can 'change' their minds by maybe learning that gays are just as equal to them, or then they dont and they hate us. And the 'we cant make everybody love us' was actually an error on my part..ment to say like and not love. sorry, lol. but considering im lesbian and i know i want them to accept me for who i am and the next gay person down the street..but lets say this kid, says he doesnt like the idea of being gay himself. that doesnt give some gay guy the right to assume he hates all gays and is homophobic..not everyone is gay and not everyone is straight...if im making sense? I am not trying to make it sound like its OK for people not to treat us fairly or to give us crap or take away out rights..im saying not everyone is just gonna magically be gay friendly. im so tired of us saying the same thing...if they cant figure out we are just people like them and deserve equality, then im sorry they dont have good hearts, but people if they dont like you..then who the heck cares! be all up in their face and be like "HEY IM GAY" and do what you want and what you need to do, fight hard for what you belive in, we will win, theyll lose, doesnt mean they will like us..and yes that did happen...the fight..it happens way more often then people realize. and the girl was my straight friend. idc tht she doesnt like girls, but shes one of my bffs and that sooo didnt need to happen. sorry if i caused confusion or anger, im just saying not everybody will like us, let them be who they are like how we want to be because honestly if they cant accept that i like girls when im a girl, or if joey like jack..or if lucy like ken AND karmen , then we dont have to like them back, keep fighting for our rights, we wont lose...but its not gonna please or change some people. btw...haz anyone seen my sam-witch..????
