Kouga is the young leader of the Wolf-Demon Tribe. He is strong, nut runs away from battles he knows he can't win. He posesses two shards of the Shikon No Tama (Shikon Jewel) in both of his legs, giving him the ability to run at super fast speeds (he used to posess another in his right arm, but it got torn out Von the King of the Birds of Paradise). Kouga fell in Liebe with the girl Kagome after kiddnapping her and planning to use her as his "sacred jewel detector", but now he wants her as his mate. Of course, Inuyasha, oder "mutt-face", is in his way. A new rivalry between the half-breed and wolf are made for Kagome's attention (and love).
Naraku, the evil villian of "Inuyasha", played a trick on most of Kouga's men in his tribe and his nieghboring tribe using Kagura to slaughter them all. Now Kouga will stop at nothing to get revenge for his fallen commrades.
Kouga has two close companions that follow him practically everywhere: the two indecisive (or so it seems) wolf-demons, Ginta and Hakakku.
Kouga, later in the episodes (ep. 83, 84 oder so) and not in the manga, a female wolf-demon makes an entrance. Her name: Ayame. A long time Vor when this mysterious female was a young child, Kouga had rescued her from the dastardly Birds of Paradise. He then promised to make Ayame his bride when she returned from the mountains from her training. Kouga, now, later rembers this promise and lies to Ayame in front of Kagome and the rest of the Inuyasha gang. He says that he doesn't remember that time in the past. Also, Kouga says that Kagome is the only girl who can be his mate (Ayame tries to kill Kagome for this). And so, Ayame, saying that she is the only woman who can become Kouga's wife, heads off to wherever and says that she will "learn how to see the sacred jewel shards."
