Chapter 16: Memories
Three weeks later
Hugh sat in his study, holding the latest script in his hands, not really giving it a look. He was too immersed in his thought. The last three weeks had been, to say the least, like hell. He and Lisa avoided each other as much as possible, starting with him moving to the guest bedroom. He wondered what that reminded him of.
Right, the times when they still hadn't been a couple and he had been to one who needed to get fixed.
Now it was the other way round, she stayed in the master bedroom while he hid in the guest room.
The only time they bumped into each other was on the set. That had been Mehr than awkward.
House and Cuddy were together, solving problems of their own, and there they were, struggling to keep focused while shooting the scene with one other.
It was a whole new experience for Hugh. He had always thought of himself as one of those actors who could work no matter what was happening.
Back in 2007 when Jo had threatened him with a divorce, he had still worked like it hadn't bothered him a bit. People called him professional. However, the truth was, it had been easy to work when the person that was distracting Du was miles away. Now, that person was a few feet, sometimes less than inches, away from him on the set, and he was having a hard time concentrating.
What was even worse, the Zeigen staff and the cast had started noticing something wasn't right. And it all ended being completely awkward for all the people working on the set. It was amazing how things can change when the two leading actors had a problem with each other. It wasn't just some lousy Hollywood myth. That really happened.
Being at Home was the greatest problem of all. He really didn't want to avoid her, but he ended up doing just that. She wasn't so keen on talking to him either. There had been days when they tried so hard not to bump into each other, they hadn't seen each other for a whole day.
He opened the first page of the script, facing the long Liste of the new medical names and meanings he had to learn to pronounce. As he started Lesen it, but not quite being aware of what he read, someone opened the door.
“Dad?” it was Charles “What are Du doing here? It's midnight”
Midnight? Already? He had gotten into the study room at half past seven. But if it was midnight...
“What are Du doing here?” Hugh frowned. Charles hadn't been Home for a whole week and when he'd come, he just stopped Von to get some things from his room. Why was he there, at midnight?
“Oh... nothing...” So, he was hiding something.
“Ok,mister, what have Du been up to?” Hugh raised a brow not really sure of what kind of response he was hoping for, oder rather expecting.
His eldest son scratched his head, almost like he wasn't sure how to say what he wanted to.
“So...” Hugh was still anticipating the answer.
“I'm here to get the Emmy video...” the boy grinned nervously “.. of Du and Lisa”
The answer startled Hugh. Why would he need that? Scratch that. Why would he need that at midnight?
“I'm not following you” Hugh shook his head.
“Ok... well, Du know when I told Du I got into a fraternity?” Charles rested his arms on his hips, almost like he had no idea what to do with them.
Hugh looked at him suspiciously.
“Of course Du don't, Du were to busy.. “ Charles chuckled “...fooling around” Hugh shot him a glare “with Lisa..” he finish with a low voice, totally embarrassed.
“Anyway...” Charlie looked at the shelf with the DVDs, like he was searching for something “we have a 'Whose parents have embarrassed one the most' contest... and I... well, instantly thought of Du two...” He bent to retrieve one DVD case from the shelf. “There” he sagte proudly.\
“Care to explain?” Hugh frowned, again, not getting anything his son told him.
“Better! I'll Zeigen you... and then I need to go, cause the contest due time is 3 am” Charles put the DVD in the only DVD recorder in the study and sat Weiter to his father, a bit afraid of his reaction.
As the words 'Emmy awards' rolled on the screen, Hugh couldn't remember the reason why they had the DVD of that event in their DVD collection.
“Lemme just skip to the 'fun' part” Charles sagte sarcastically and searched for the remote control.
“Here” Hugh handed it to him with a questioning glare and the boy twitched nervously. This was sure something. Hugh smirked to himself.
“I'm Guliana Ransic, and I have breaking news everybody” the E! reporter sagte in excitement “Hugh Laurie and Lisa Edelstein just arrived together! Ryan? What do Du know about this?” she sagte as the camera focused on Ryan, which was awaiting for the Berühmtheiten to interview them.
“I just got exclusive news that they might actually be together. And I'm thrilled for them. After what happened Jahr and a half ago... I'm happy for them! Guliana?”
“Yes, Ryan. There was a lot of speculation going on for the past few months surrounding their hook up. Seems like they were true!” the reporter winked at the camera playfully
“Oh, hold on, they are coming, I better get to interview them” Ryan told Guliana as he saw Lisa and Hugh approach the interviewing area.
“Hey guys” Ryan helped Lisa climb the few stairs that were, oh so thoughtfully, leading to the interviewing area from the red carpet.
“Before I tell Du Du look amazing, let me say. What is going on here?” Ryan's mouth kept wide opened. Lisa looked at Hugh, the same look they've had on their faces every time they did an interview.
“Why don't Du tell him?” Lisa giggled, motioning to Hugh to start talking.
“Oh, it's easy for Du to let me handle it” Hugh grinned, making Lisa, and Ryan, laugh a bit.
“No, seriously, guys, what's going on?” Ryan asked with his infamous smile, the one that made him millions and threw so many women to their knees.
“Can I first Zeigen Du my awesome Jimmy Choo shoes, I'm afraid I won't have time!” Lisa laughed, again gazing at Hugh.
“Of course” Ryan laughed with her “and who are Du wearing?”
“Valentino... It's surprising how Du can get an awesome dress, when Beyoncé isn't standing in the row before you. Take that Beyonce! Du don't do prime time” They all three laughed. In the corner of the screen, in a small 'box',you could see other TV stars on the red carpet.
“Back to Du two guys...” Ryan motioned with his hand to Hugh.
“Oh... right... Well, we're together” Hugh sagte a bit slowly. Lisa beamed at his words.
“That's huge!” Ryan looked at his interviewing cards, realizing not one Frage he had for the two of them were going to help.
“Yeah... can I just say something? It's the first time I'll ever get a chance so...” Lisa giggled 'I Liebe first times' she mouthed as Ryan gave brought the microphone to her “Charles, Becca and Billy... Hi!” Lisa waved at the camera. Hugh took the microphone “You better be doing your homework”
Ryan laughed again “You sure are one happy family... I hope Du keep it that way”
Charlie turned the TV down.
“I'm so wining this!” he laughed with delight.
Hugh could get why he was so embarrassed Von the whole thing... And as Charles sagte a quick 'bye' and left the room, Hugh let Ryan's words sink in.
'I hope Du keep it that way'
and he had to make sure he did.
He got to the master bedroom, and without knocking got in, just to find Lisa Lesen Von the dim light, in the bed.
“We need to talk” his gaze fell to the floor as Lisa put the book away.
There Du have it!
