Although Pansy has been Draco's friend for around 10 or 9 years, Astoria would of been more suited to Draco because despite being in slytherin, they both have good inside them. Draco saved Harry's life in the Malfoy Mannor and a scene that was cut out in the movie was of Draco passing Harry's wand to while while fighting Voldemort. Astoria apparently wanted to join Dumbledore's Army with her sister but she didn't (some reason). Plus J.K Rowling never wanted Pansy and Draco together because Pansy reminded her of the girls who teased J.K at school.
