[DOUBLE REVIEW] Eric: Girls\' Generation - \'Catch Me If You Can\'

GIRLS\' GENERATION - "CATCH ME IF YOU CAN" (Korean version)

Girls\' Generation needs no introduction. Arguably the most popular K-pop group in the world, winning multiple awards and fans across the globe, they have cemented their place in the K-pop realm with multiple megahits. "Catch Me If You Can" is their newest single and their first song without Jessica.

Girls\' Generation\'s crossover into EDM with a definite dubstep groove to it. It\'s different than most of their past output, having more of an electronic feel. I like the opening line, but I\'m not as impressed as I could be by the rest of it.

The thing I didn\'t like about it is that there\'s not much difference between the main verses and the chorus. The chorus sounds like sort of an extension of the main verse with the terseness of the lyrics and the lack of substance. It\'s like there\'s a buildup (I like the main verses), a skillful pre-chorus (enjoy that part, too), and then the chorus itself is a bit of a letdown. There\'s also a hook at the the start (

"Did it") that strangely never pops up again. At all.

There\'s some standout vocal work here from

Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Yoona, particularly during the bridge and the pre-chorus. Hyoyeon\'s parts seem like an afterthought, though. It\'s not a bad song, just not an amazing one. I think "Genie" and "Run Devil Run" were stronger songs. It does show a nod in a different direction, though. Maybe their next album will be more techno-inspired?  

The good news: This is not the worst video I\'ve seen. It\'s watchable, but that\'s about as far as it goes.

The bad news: It\'s far from the best video I\'ve seen, either.

All it consists of is the girls dancing around what appears to be a construction site. There\'s no amazing special effects, there\'s no plot, there\'s one (count \'em: one) change of costume mid-MV, and that\'s it.

The dancing\'s not too bad. It\'s a bit too clean and precise, but during the breaks, they bust out the moves and showcase more of what they\'re capable of.

But ultimately, it\'s overall "meh." I wanted more, though the part with the CGI copter marking the transition from day to night was kinda cool. So, SM: with the departure of

The song is good, the video is good,the quality and focus of the cameras are great, the choreography is aggressive and is also smooth. Is Not the best song of SNSD but is unique and that is very good.if they expect songs like Gee or Genie,

I don\'t know if it\'s true but GG already release their Japanese PV for Catch Me If You Can. Here the video (from GirlsGenerationVevo channel):

the song is bad. The MV is low budget. The dance is not as powerful as I thought it would be, in fact it\'s weird . The dance was actually awkward to watch. Especially the ending, the pose the dance ended on was weird. With that said the girls sure look beautiful and rocking the concept. I\'m happy that the other girls got more lines, I\'m enjoying the fact that yoona had lines too. Maybe because there\'s 1 less now. It\'s just a crappy composition. Why did they even make Korean version and attempt to promote it in Korea? They are not gonna promote it  right? It\'s just a Korean version of their Japanese song right? Cos it\'s a bad song in my opinion not really worth promoting. 

Yet this song will still win multiple awards bc it\'s snsd. It\'s not a great song.

It\'s not a REVIEW. It just a writer OPINION and for that I don\'t agree with all of what @eric_r_wirsing say about the MV and the Dance. I think the song is not good but the MV and Dance is good that can save the song.

Uggh crappy half-assed song. If I want edm I would go to T-ara\'s sugar free, not this crap

shut the hell up eric no one asked for your opinion..... its one of the best songs snsd did don\'t ruin our moment of joy. 

Relax sones, this is not their Korean comeback. It\'s for Japanese fans but since they love us, they gave us the Korean Version. So chill and relax ;)

Wtf dude, I really hate these reviews because I loved it and want and to do more songs like this, but all the negative POV SM probably won\'t.

Among EDM , their are still good songs and bad songs. This is a bad EDM song. This song is so far from their Great Escape.

People just don\'t get that this is a Japanese release, it\'s not their comeback. The sound sounds weird for Korean market but maybe it fits the Japanese one. They released this single in Korea as a gift to fans but they are not going to perform it on tv shows. I liked the song after a few listens and absolutely love the music video. I like this style very much. 

A bad song is a bad song in any market. Korean fans don\'t only listen to Korean music.

@Maggie if u want to hear a bad song try AKB48, even so they are so big in Japan xD

The thing is, everyone has different views and tastes on music. Some like it because of the beat as well as because it\'s EDM. While some would not like it because they would always expect some catchy songs like Gee. I think maybe because some needs to be open minded that the girls are also trying some different genre and that they need to understand what EDM means before they do some criticisms. The writers or producers might have liked it because they have knowledge when it comes to making music, while we might just say that we don\'t like it because it is not catchy.

Sones are not delusional. For me, I liked it because I like dancing as well as I like dancing to fast movements like this. Let us just open our ears well. haha, but yeah we can\'t please everyone. 

It is also precious to SNSD fans because YSHY(Yoong, Soo, Hyo and Yul) were given longer lines which is one of the greatest wishes of the fans. And yeah it\'s the first time SM gave them longer lines :) PEACE YOW. Let\'s just respect everybody\'s opinions.

This was one of the worst snsd lead singles I\'ve ever heard..Ima done and I\'m super disappointed..it\'s not even the lack of sicas voice..this track was just really underwhelming..sigh

Thumps up this comment! You can tell here SM is so much realistic than you all people think. Trust me they will no longer put much efforts on GG anymore like they did in the past, main reason is the departure of Jessica was handled terribly wrong, fans know she\'s out of the group because she was forced, not because she wanted to. I\'m 100% sure no Jessica fans are going to spend any money on GG without Jessica. The other reason is the 3 years contract will go really fast, so much a waste of time...

Well it depends on who\'s listening. For EDM lovers, they love it. But we, as like usual KPOP songs is we need to absorbed the song. When I first watch it honestly I didn\'t like it. When you play it again and again, I going to love it. Like what Sunny said, "You need to keep listening to it for it to grown on your ears.  As you need to listen to it more before you come to a judgment about it, I put on Girls\' Generation\'s \'Catch Me If You Can.\'"

It\'s actually a Japanese single so a lot of people think the song flows better in Japanese than in Korean which makes sense.  The Japanese version should have been posted first. The video is also posted on "GirlsGenerationVEVO" so if it gets a lot of views it will appear on other VEVO related videos.  Most famous singers around the world have these VEVO channels.
