Concerning the venus flytrap...

Hey! I've got a venus flytrap and one of my Friends would like one. I just don't know how to teilt, split off the plant...if that's even possible. Will I have to wait until it flowers? Any information anyone has with dealing with venus flytraps personally would be much appreciated!
