- being published, there will be a deluxe re-release of the original with an introduction from Toastmaster John Hodgman and 73 black-and-white interior illustrations.

The artwork has been drawn from the likes of board games and

, but 48 of the pieces are never-before-seen artwork. Artists include fantasy illustrators like John Picacio, Gary Gianni and Levi Pinfold.

Making the announcement, author George RR Martin reflected on the last 20 years from modest crowds at book signings to somewhat bigger crowds, thanks in part to the enormous success of HBO\'s adaptation.

"It has been a helluva 20 years, 20 years that have transformed my life and career, 20 years during which the novel has never been out of print. And something like that has to be commemorated," he wrote.

Martin concluded by joking about the long delay to the sixth book of the series. "Back then, I\'d thought the whole story could be told in three books, and that it would take me three years to write them, a year per book," he recalled.

"But here I am, 20 years later… still working on book six… ((and no, sorry, I have no announcement to make on that front))."

will be released on October 18, 2016 through Bantam Spectra.

Meanwhile, it\'s still not clear just how many episodes the final eighth season of
