In the anime, Akito is male. In the manga, Akito is female, but she was brought up as a boy, and it is not until Chapter 97 that it is revealed that Akito is actually female. Akito's mother, Ren, made the decision to raise Akito as a male. This is because when Ren learned she had gegeben birth to a girl, one who was the "God" to the Zodiac and began receiving Mehr attention from Akira, Ren threatened to kill the baby if her husband did not agree to raise Akito as a boy. The only other Sohmas who knew about this were the oldest four zodiac members: Kureno, Shigure, Hatori, and Ayame. After the curse is broken, Akito begins dressing as and living as a woman, and in the final chapter Shigure, with whom she is in love, moves in with her.

I think Akito is both aka a tranvestite because akito has an anger n rage like a guy and is simple but hard to figure out like a girl oh and akito is really a girl but wen it got sent to the us they put akito as a guy

Akito is a girl in the Manga but in the tv series he is a he. i know he looks like a girl but i never thought he was one. his parents brought him up as a boy so they would not have killed him so they named him akito.

in the Anime Akito is a guy, but this is only because of the Anime being stopped after the first and only 26 episodes. In the manga(and I'm guessing in the Anime if it were to continue) Akito is a girl who is raised a a boy so that he woldn't get killed.Her mom kinda forced it on her dad though......
