I'd imagine that'd be pretty rare. As I said in the poll about thinking that others' fics are better than the original, people generally don't read fan fiction of something they think is bad to start off with.
Now I've seen people do rewrites of seasons or fixit's but like Flickerflame said it is rare when someone says it's better than the original but usually it's because of an ending of a season, film or book that didn't go the way they hoped.
I've seen people say stuff like "I wish that'd happened", but like you said in your first post, that's not exactly the same as saying that the story itself is better than the original.
I actually have received my first comment like that. Tbh I have to disagree with them, but I was flattered no less. But then, as ktchenor mentioned 'fixits' are a thing. Though that wasn't what I was going for with my fic; a lot of people were disappointed with how the actual show ended, so I'm assuming that's where the comment I got came from.
Well, I guess that's what I was saying. Sometimes I see comments where people don't like how a season ended or how an episode turned out so when someone does a fxit or rewrite sometimes they're happier with that than the original product. Though, personally I think the original is usually sometimes better but a fixit is a nice alternative, I guess. :)
Someone said my fic made them feel sorry for James Cameron. I wasn’t sure whether it was an insult or a compliment, but they apparently found it hilarious.
