Not a huge fan of both but Lion King is a clearly better made movie. In every aspect I can think of, except maybe the music in Pocahontas is better.

Much better in pretty much every way. It has a wonderful story arc!

The story of Pocahontas has been done a hunder times, and it didn't have an interesting twist or anything. Characters are pretty boring as well. But the music and animation just blow you away.
Overall, though, The Lion King wasn't the highest grossing animated film ever for nothing :D It's just one of the best movies, and Timon and Pumbaa are just epic.

Interesting choice to compare these two. They were in production at the same time, and the more experienced animators all flocked to Pocahontas, because they felt it would be more successful. (since it followed the Renaissance formula). The Lion King was left with novice animators, and animators who really liked to draw animals. It's ironic because, as we know, TLK was a larger hit, more financially successful, and considered one of the greatest animated films, of well, ever!

And it's my favorite Disney film. Just epic. The fear of abandonment is archetypal, and brings a lot of pathos. It's absolutely stunning, and contains the greatest score in any Disney film. Perfection to me.

Pocahontas, while artistically brilliant with a soundtrack to die for, is a film that I have a love/hate relationship with.

In Pocahontas the characters are boring and the story is terrible but the animation and music keep me liking the film. However the Lion King just excels at all elements of character development, story, animation, songs and music so it is definitely better.

Kenzieiscool, I compared these two together, since they were released back to back, just like the other polls of the Renaissance. Even though I do enjoy Pocahontas more than The Lion King, it's story is weaker than the Lion Kings. But both are on par with their scores and animation.
