I hope they eventually do, I just think we should wait until gay people are finally accepted in society so there isn't huge controversy.

No- and I'll tell you why.

#1. Not now. Too much hate would spurn from it, I say they make it after gay marriage is legalized in most or ALL of the states, and people have calmed down about it.

#2. I really think if Disney made a gay disney prince/princess, they would screw it up. Reason #434093 why I didn't like Princess and the Frog is because they built it around Tiana being black, and the story surrounds her being black. I'm afraid if they made a gay disney prince/princess, they would do that too. I'd like to see a story line where the fact that the prince/princess is gay isn't even outwardly acknowledged- sort of like if you took Aladdin, made Aladdin a girl, and changed absolutely nothing else. But I have a feeling Disney will make it a very "gay" movie, will stereotype it, and will dumb it down. The reason why I don't want it mentioned, is because it kind of kills the "fairy-tale" aspect of it, for me. I think if they don't mention it, it will be more "normalized" and not distracting. If that makes any sense.

I would rather a company who doesn't have the pressure to make a traditional, very safe, non offense movie make a kid's animated movie about that subject, such as DreamWorks.

^ I mostly agree, I just hope eventually Disney makes one. And more specifically like you said; the character just happens to be gay and the story doesn't necessarily revolve around it.

^well, that's what I'm going to be afraid of when they make a Hispanic princess. The thing is, Tiana is known as "the black princess." Pocahontas, Jasmine, and Mulan aren't known as their individul ethnicities. I'm afraid they're going to make a Hispanic princess and she's going to practically shout "I'M HISPANIC!"

Hmm maybe they could slowly work their way into it by starting out with a small background character who just happens to be gay (where it's actually mentioned, so that rules out Wiggins lol) so it wouldn't be too controversial and by the time Disney feels it's the right moment to make a "main gay" character, people will hopefully be more accepting of it.

^I don't think so at all....Little kids are naive, so they don't know the norms yet. If anything, it'd be easier for them to understand than adults.

Well, I'd be for it but Disney should definitely not make it now since there's controversy about it. And oh my goodness, I would hate it if they ever made a Hispanic princess and the movie ended up stereotyping Hispanics. They should treat her like any other White princess.

No, it might have kids deciding their sexuality way way too early, we don't need 5 year olds telling each other whether they're gay or straight.

@pretty_angel92. I know. -___- It's stupid for anyone to think that any homosexual person is beneath them. They are just like us, they just happen to like the same gender better. As for the movie, I agree with most people above. They should make it after controversy dies down.

Although I think it would be great, and would show gay children around the world that their love is worth the same as the princes/princesses before them, I doubt this will happen anytime soon. Unfortunately because of certain religious and political views (I won't generalize towards one religion or political party because each person, regardless of their religion, believes differently, but those are basically the main reasons gays are hated and discriminated against) there will always be people and (parents especially) who disagree with homosexuals. Disney, although a very gay-friendly company, would probably not take that risk, especially since they are built upon so-called "family values". And @milky-way, children don't decide their sexual preference, they are born either gay, straight, or bisexual, and no amount of external influence is going to change that.

@princesslullaby, I disagree, respectfully, with the fact that they centered the story around Tiana being black. There was really only one acknowledgment of it in the movie, "a little woman of your BACKGROUND", she spends most of the movie as a frog anyways. I believe it was the critics and the media that blew it out of proportion (DISNEY'S FIRST BLACK PRINCESS!! IT'S ABOUT TIME!) Disney just happened to pick New Orleans and wanted to pay tribute to that area (which I think is beautiful and full of culture). How is that any different with Belle? She was French and they loaded up the movie with French references, architecture, and language. Same for Jasmine, Pocahontas, and Mulan.

But it would only work if it were not the focus. It is there but not the main characteristic of the character. Tiana's character was based on the fact that she was a black woman, and it hurt her character.

I think if they made a movie like that then its going to end up like the hunchback of notre dame ( my favorite disney movie) being underrated because little kids wouldn't understand it. The reason whY HOND is so underrated is because many people don't like the religion part of it. So if they made a movie where a princess/prince was gay some people would probably hate on itfor that reason

Why do people think gay marriage would be difficult to understand for little kids? Why would it be any more difficult than straight marriage? Kids are not born thinking that straight marriage is the only way to go.

when they make is now, it will be more about the fact that there is someone gay in it than about the story. I'm not against Disney (or Pixar for that matter) taking risks and going a little bit more controversial, but the DP princess movies should be about escapism. Plus, when they do it, all the complainers will come out of the woodwork, like it happend with "Princess and the Frog". It will stiffle the creativity of the animators and the end result will suffer. Disney is at it's best with projects which fly under the radar (like "Lion King" or "Lilo and Stitch").

I'm not against it at all but I don't think kids would be ready for it. It would be awesome if it was a teaching moment but I like how Disney is a fun company that will teach morals but I think that's a little too much. Anyways there's always Pocahontas there to teach kids about treating everyone with respect even if they're different.
