I would be curious as to why anyone would vote pessimist, I would like to hear the explantation =).

Anyway, I think that Ariel had to be very optimistic, or else she wouldn't make the deal with Ursula and would focus on the problems that the others had.

Maybe neither but not optimistic. She is playful but not optimistic, it's not the same. Optimist wouldn't be dissatisfied with his life enough to change her indentity forever. Cinderella is not particularly playful but she is one of the most optimistic DPs. In my opinion Renessaince DPs are not very optimistic in general. Classics are the most optimistic group.
