Well it doesn't bother me, but I do thing it's by far time they show a mother daughter relationship (or even a mother son relationship, having the prince be close to his mother) Even in moives where the mother's alive the dad's always the one everyone cares about. In princess and the frog Tiana's mother is the one alive, yet her relationship with her father is the priority. In Mulan it's her father's safety and approval that first drives her. In Sleeping Beauty King Stefan gets all the attention (the faries even say "poor King Stefan and the Queen" the queen? You've known her for years and you haven't even learned the poor woman's name?)

There are a lot of girls who are closer to their mother than their father too (myself included. Always been closer to my mum, not at all close to my dad). I do think they should stop focusing on the father/daughter relationship for at least 1 movie and do a positive mother/daughter one. Mainly I'd like them to show it because I think they've explored the father/daughter relationship enough, they need a new family angle. It's from a veiwer perspective not a personal one, I just think they've explored that angle enough :)

I'm not close to either of my parents, but if I had to choose, my mom. They still havent done a good mother-daughter relationship.

I get along beautifully with my mum, but I'm not even on talking terms with my dad.
Most, at least in my experience, have a mother rather than a father, not the other way around. It makes the princesses really hard to relate to.

My Dad hasn't been in my life for almost 10 years now...it would be nice (and easier to relate to) for them to have a Princess who is very close with her Mom.

I not surprised that the Disney princess don't have moms. I mean during the history of the time period moms would die most likely from illness or childbirth. Evil step-moms been around since Greek Mythology. Ino, the step-mom of Helle and her brother who made the Golden Ram happen which inturn lead to Jason searching for its fleece.
