i just find Belle very over rated

She's gorgeous nice smart advantureous independent saved disney from dieing because they have not had a big hit in a long time and she saved them from shutting down and the princesses beofre her are damsels in disresss Ariel isn't and she saved her prince twice with action Belle just saved the Beast by saying I love you when does that ever save someone in real life Ariel is more real she has personality of a real person Belle a perfect girl NO you'll never find a girl like that Ariel is prettier and more independent and can kick Belle's butt don't get me wronge I like Belle and all I don't understand why somebody would like any of them Ariel's clearly better than Belle did she save the seven seas no Ariel and Eric did so to me it's clearly Ariel who's better

I don't like Belle.

Both of them deserve to be up there. I consider those two along with Cinderella to be the three most iconic princesses.

The reason for my love of Ariel lies in her spunk and adventurousness. You can't help but root for her when she's going after something she wants so much. She's willing to leave everything she's ever known for the love of her life.

Though sadly it doesn't seem like she has any problem leaving her father and her people which seems a bit selfish and that's where Belle gets her edge on this....

Wanting adventure but not giving up the ones she loves for it. She's willing to become a prisoner and lose the one thing she's ever wanted to protect her father.

She's strong and independent without coming off as sassy and stubborn.

She's loyal and caring without coming off as simpering and weak.

She's open minded and not affected by the views of others, and as a result, is willing to look into the heart of a Beast to find her prince.

To me there is no one more worthy of the title of Princess than Belle. :)

Um firegirl 1515, You say Belle didn't do much by saving the Beast and besides she's the one that got him into that predicament in the first place and I mean Ariel saved the whole ocean!.....Why did the 'whole ocean' need saving? Ariel signed a contract because she wanted legs, even though she was warned not too, and ended up giving Ursula the power to put the ocean in a place where it needed saving.

You say Belle got beast into trouble in the first place? When people say she saved Beast they aren't talking about saving him from the village people. They're talking about saving him from a life of despair as a beast!

I like Ariel, but you can't say her doing more is the reason she's better.

I love them both more than any other princesses and although my head always gives me more reasons to love Belle, my heart will always love Ariel the most.

Ariel to me, is more realistic and her movie saved disney from bankruptcy. I find Belle to be a bit of a snob and overrated. Ariel was a bit more heroic.

When did Ariel save the whole ocean? Eric was the one that stabbed Ursula with the broken bowsprit of the ship. During that time Ariel was in the middle of that whirlpool, trying not to get hit by Ursula, who was shooting at her with the trident. Though yeah, she did help. Ariel did save Eric from getting shot with the trident a little before that.

I've always been cool with Ariel. Used to love watching The Little Mermaid TV series when I was a little kid. I enjoyed her. Such a fun character to watch. I never cared about Belle until a few years back that I saw Beauty and the Beast again. And I saw all the things that livelydebate stated in her first comment, and I wanted to be more like her.

Well, everyone here knows that I don't like Ariel, of course I don't mind when others do like her. I like this comparison of livelydebate, and I totally agree that Belle wins first of all in her attitude to family. And honestly I'm really shocked when people say that Belle is overrated...

I think overall she teaches a better lesson- to love someone for who they are on the inside...don't get me wrong, Ariel teaches a fine lesson as well (to follow your dreams) I just prefer Belle over her...always have and probably always will...that's just my opinion though.

Hello she did save the ocean if it wasn't for Ariel Ursula would have zapped Eric remember "say goodbye to your little sweet heart" Ariel pulls Ursula's hair to stop her from killing Eric and Ariel helped kill Flotsem and Jetsom their only henckman but that counts for something and she should have killed Ursula but Ariel still sorta did help why did Eric have to I mean he's my favorite disney hero but why did he have to kill Ursula we already had Philip do that why could Ariel be the first princess to kill the villian she's independent and so why did we have to wait for Mulan and Tiana to be the only ones to kill the villian and Ariel's relationship with her father is more real than Belle and her father because Belle never fights with her father you look for a family like that you'll never find them but a family like Ariel's you find them everywhere I see families like theirs everyday Ariel is way more real than Belle all than Belle has thats more real is from the waist down she doesn't look like the sea food special

I have to disagree, I think Belle is absolutely real character. And I don't think it's worse that she couldn't fight with pack of wolves, it would be ridiculous if she killed wolves.

hello a pack of wolfes is nothing compared to a shark a shark can eat a pack of wolfes in one bite I'm just saying she's just a bit too goody goody she's not as real as Ariel and Ariel is more heroic

it very fare for wolves to be near salt water but not impossible and Sharks will eat anything it can eat the wolves in one bite so a shark is harder to get rid of than a pack of wolves

Ok im going to intervene really quickly...

I can see the point yes Ariel got away from a shark yeah she did. But honeslty who said they had to be the most heroic to be the best disney princess. Lets all face it...it doesnt take much to fall in love with a handsome prince.
While Ariel disobeyed her father Belle did the exact opposite, she gave up her freedom(which in the first place i feel like she didnt even realize she had freedom in a small town) just so her father could get out of the cold...she gave up her life...Forever...I kinda feel that deserves more then getting away from a shark.
Also she did save beast life when he was fighting off the wolves he passed out and she momentarily thought of leaving him there so the wolves could eat him. She didnt. She hauled him onto her horse(this big huge beast) and took him home.
I feel Belle is a better role model for kids just because she didnt disobey and break the rules. She looked beyon the terrible appearance of a beast and found true love inside.
This has nothing to do with bravery....just because your brave doesnt mean you are the best.

Oh yeah, huh? I forgot. Belle really was thinking about just leaving the Beast there in the snow but instead she chose to help him and bring him back to the castle and stayed to take care of him.

well we have actually homes now that are not for crazy people and for them my parents have only two options live in are home with stair and fall down the stair or live in a home with no stair their choice my relationship with my family is like Ariel's

Yeah because Belle can do that so easily when she's being kept prisoner in a castle. And as TotallyMe105 just said, he would've been thrown in an asylum. And he wasn't that bad anyway, he only became severely ill because of the fact that he was worried for his daughter. There is no way she would've put him in a home [asylum] at the beginning of the film as he was coping fine and I actually got the impression that she lived with him? She obviously took good care of him. Hell, he even rode out on a horse by himself so I think he's quite well-off for an elderly man, he doesnt need to be in a home. The only reason he needed someone to take care of him was BECAUSE Belle was being held prisoner in the castle with nothing she could do! No one to take care of him! Oh and btw please dont say that quote so loosely ("i would stick my parents in a home") because its obviously not as easy as that.. whether you hate them or not. But Im talking about if YOU was in BELLE'S situation.

I think the only reason people love belle so much is because her movie came out in 3D I think when Ariel's comes out in 3D shell be more popular too
