I've explained this before in my Old vs New article, so I'll try not to repeat myself. While Paige O'Hara's voice is much better than Emma Watson's voice, I feel there was more energy in the remake with this scene. Plus, Emma Watson's face and voice looking bored for most of the scene/song is what I think makes this version work much better than the original. She's supposed to be bored with her provincial and routine day-to-day life she goes through and longing for more out of life. She only sounds interested and not bored when she's doing something that interests her. Belle in the original just looked and sounded way too cheerful and made it hard for me to even think she was bored or longing for more out of like. She seemed perfectly fine with her life, especially how she just goes around smiling.
