Round 2: Aurora
as for emotionally, I still find her a bit tougher than Rapunzel (she also sticks to her dream even when all hope seemed lost, which is strong) but weak physically + somewhat weak emotionally = Ariel loses this round.
I kind of agree on Belle too.
I'd say Belle was stronger emotionally at least because as much as she wants to have an adventure, she makes a conscious decision to stick by her dad coz he;s not upto taking care of himself. She's very matured and responsible emotionally. She's holding back lot of emotions when she's making a deal with Beast for her father's freedom. She has the strength to recover from the hurt and isolation after couple of hours, after talking to Mrs. Potts. She could be debated to have average physical strength as she's an average horse rider.
Merida is physically quite strong. It needs great strength of arm to swing a sword and fight with a grown man, like her father. It also needs much physical strength for archery and such highly skilled horse riding and hiking and mountaineering skills. She is emotionally weak only regarding marriage issue but finds her head often enough to resolve issues.
Also Belle exhibits physical strength well above the other princesses when she manages to get the Beast up on the horse to take him home after the wolves attacked him and he had passed out. That was dead weight yet she got him up there somehow.
If Belle actually HAS such great self-control, she would not have been up in the West Wing DESPITE A GRAVE warning from Adam. She DISOBEYS, anyway. Belle then "BREAKS HER WORD to stay with Adam," and runs away! Yes. That's exhibiting great self-control.... NOT.
Merida can't have her way, so she uses her own mother's words against her and embarrasses the family publicly. But then, after her mother has understandable reason to be shocked--- Merida ruins something precious to Elinor, and Elinor throws Merida's bow in the fire for smarting-off at her. Merida takes this SPLENDID opportunity to race off pell-mell for the woods, where she stumbles on the witch and decides she should OUTRIGHT CHANGE her mother's mind for her!!! Merida feeds her mother a cake, and her mother becomes a bear--- all before Merida decides to publicly apologize for doing this in the first place! Yes...Merida exercises self-control--- WAY after the damage is almost entirely COMPLETE. Merida has way less self-control and exhibits tit-for-tat.
Yes Belle does disobey and run away once just like Merida does once and that's not exhibiting great self-control but Ariel disobeys and runs away multiple times, much more than the other two in question.
Yes, I know the story of Brave very well, I just re-watched it recently but thank you for the recap. I'm not going to provide a recap of The Little Mermaid for you because I have already done that before. In my opinion Merida shows more self control by trying to participate with her family more whereas Ariel is much more self-centered and not exhibiting any self-control as she just does whatever she wants all the time, regardless of what rules she is knowingly breaking. My argument is that Ariel has less self control than Belle or Merida and I respect that your opinion is the reverse.
I respect that you like Belle and Merida more, but I find both of them emotionally weak, too, just like Ariel! When it comes to interfacing with the powers that be, all three girls don't do well. Belle and Merida don't exhibit any more self-control than Ariel does. Merida draws lousy pictures of her mother during geography lessons, grimaces at her mother during speech class, and rolls her eyes a lot. Belle blows off an entire town because she thinks they're provincial hicks without any "big dreams." Belle's scorn is very much apparent. And Belle and Merida both cause major problems for Adam and Elinor: in Adam's case, a mob descends on his home because Belle has a big mouth, and in Merida's case...the loss of a parent, wife, and mother for three other children is possible because Merida wants a spell to totally "change her mother's personality." You complain about Ariel, but both Belle and Merida are very weak emotionally ( to the same degree as Ariel), and their movies really show that they are not suited to solving their problems well at all.
I didn't say I "like" Belle and Merida more. Please actually read what I write. I said I consider them to be more emotionally stronger than Ariel. Don't twist my words please, I'd appreciate accuracy. Also I don't complain about anything. Perhaps you forgot that this is a countdown asking opinions about emotional weakness and strength so I am just giving mine. I'm not complaining. I still see Belle and Merida attempting to show more maturity which takes emotional strength whereas Ariel has none. That's my opinion and I'm giving it for this subjective countdown, based on everyone's opinion. Please respect that.
