As much as I was invested in Ariel's struggles and overall personality what got me drawn to this movie so strongly was the overall story and it's progression as well as the development of all the characters, particulary Triton and Eric, which in my opinion is the primary indication of quality because a well constructed movie should provide the audience with a layered, dimentional characterization and a though provoking plot.
