Sultan was coming from the seriously messed up law system that he wasn't competent enough to ty to improve whereas Triton came from his prejudices against a different culture and destroyed everything that made Ariel happy under the sea and everything she had been working on for years in only few seconds just because she refused to share his outlooks. He obviously cared for Ariel, but chose certain downright disturbing methods to show it sometimes. At least he moved on from it eventually though, just as Sultan realized that certain laws needed to be re-written because of being unfair and misogynistic and he had the power to do it.

very true. I began with Triton, The Sultan was the only other Dad I could think of that said something frustrating or "mad". At the moment , I suppose If i thought hard enough, I could remember more lines. But I have to go somewhere.

Triton came across as "really scary and mean" when I was younger! He scared me! I thought that line from the Sultan was funny!

The sultan is just upset with his daughter but Triton was actually angry.
