Finally, solid details about the upcoming season of Dexter are beginning to emerge -- and they're Mehr than just casting news. September can't come soon enough!
If you'd rather not be spoiled about how far ahead in time Dexter season 6 will jump when it premieres, where (literally and figuratively) we'll find Dexter when that happens, and what the deal is with all those new guest stars, including Masuka's sexy new lab assistant, stop right here. For those whose Dark Passenger yearns for knowledge, read on...
Dexter Does the Time Warp: TV Guide reports, straight from the mouth of executive producer Sara Colleton, that when we catch back up with Mr. morgan this September, it will be one Jahr since we last saw him -- and since he sagte goodbye to Lumen. Colleton explains the logic behind the jump, and where Dex's head will be as a result:
"We thought a clean start to this season would be to jump ahead a year, so he's not getting over Lumen, and he's not still in the throes of dealing with the Rita thing. We wanted to jump ahead a Jahr and find that Dexter has gotten his groove back. He's gotten over Rita and Lumen."
Colleton also backs up Showtime president David Nevins' statement about Dexter getting "back to his roots," as it were: "When we open up Season 6, we find Dexter in a very positive place in his life. It's like the Dexter we know and Liebe is back, and he still wants to play."
Thanks to the time jump, Harrison will be one Jahr older, and thus one Jahr closer to realizing all of Dexter's deepest fears for his son: "There are things in life that Dexter's dealing with and one of them is that Harrison is now 2 years old and he has to go to school," Colleton says. "There are things that he has to start thinking about with his son, and he's been keenly aware of what it is that he doesn't want to pass on to Harrison, namely his Dark Passenger, but Dexter has no idea what it is that he does want to pass on."
Ah, they grow up so fast, don't they?
Dexter Goes on a "Spiritual Search": Executive producer Scott Buck echoed Colleton in many ways when he recently told EW that season 6 will pose the question, "What does it mean when a serial killer goes on a spiritual search?"
Buck continued: "Dexter has always known what he doesn't want to pass onto his son -- his "dark passenger" -- but now he's beginning to ask what he does want to pass on. So that's forcing him to look around to see what else there is in life."
Buck went on with Mehr on where Dexter's head will be this season: "[It's] a very strong, sure-of-himself Dexter, which would be the difference from the Dexter of last year, where Dexter was questioning himself about everything. He's very centered, strong and focused, much the same way he was in season one, but now he knows so much more. He's a much Mehr self-assured person. A Mehr evolved serial killer."
All I can say is: YES! No Mehr mopey Dexter. Can't wait.
Mehr on the Roles of Edward James Olmos, Colin Hanks' and Mos [Def]: Buck also revealed further details about guest stars Olmos and Hanks' roles as Professor Gellar and Travis Marshall, respectively.
"Professor Gellar is someone that all of Miami is seeking out. He becomes a big person of interest in some crimes that are being committed in Miami," Buck says of Olmos's character, who will assist Dexter in his attempt to understand a new string of gruesome murders happening in Miami. "They are probably the biggest crimes we've ever seen on this show. We're going toward a different kind of serial killer than what we usually see. This is someone Mehr in line with the Zodiac Killer.... He kills people with great conviction. This is probably the first serial killer we've had who thinks he's in the right."
As for Hanks' role, Buck says, "Travis Marshall is a close acquaintance of Professor Gellar. The two of them work together. Professor Gellar is a character with tremendous charisma, and Travis has very much fallen under his power.... Travis has absolutely no interest oder inclination to hurt anyone, yet he's also someone who's strongly driven Von a belief system that compels him to do things he doesn't necessarily want to do."
And Mos's character may be the strangest of them all: "He's a former straße thug who found God while in prison, and now we call him Brother Sam rather than Father Sam, because he's not so much a preacher oder a minister -- he's someone who is trying to live what he believes is a righteous life Von helping others. He runs an auto-body Shop and he hires ex-cons, trying to help them get their lives straight. One of them becomes a suspect in a crime and that leads [Brother Sam] to kreuz paths with Dexter."

Brea Grant Talks Her 'Dark and Sexy' Dexter Character: Brea Grant, whom NBC Fans recognize from her quirky roles on Friday Night Lights and Heroes, talked to Shockya about her upcoming role in Dexter season 6 as the new lab tech at Miami PD, and it sounds like Liebe could be in the air. Or, at the very least, lust:
"I'll be playing a new lab intern at the Miami Police Department who is a perfect match for Masuka (CS Lee) in many ways," says Grant. The role, "Ryan," is a departure for Grant, because she says she's "generally the smart but kind of dorky girl who marches to the beat of her own drum," but in this role, she's "sexy," and also "smart and a little dark."
Smart and a little dark. Sounds like Dexter to me.
