In which country?

Yes for Sweden, no for the USA....

Guns are already too rampant and widely available in the US. Over there, the adage 'when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns' is pretty accurate.

in saying that DrD
you could say that as the US have more guns there is more need to control them
and as the gun rate is lower is sweden you could lower it even more

although i do see your point but the question is in general

do you think it wold be better if i opened up the question for other to add more answers?

It is already against the law to own a gun in Sweden, and it works splendidly. There really is very little gun crime here.

But what I am saying about the US is that you CANNOT control them. It has gone way beyond that. That country is totally out of control and I predict will self-destruct eventually... probably rather soon in the scheme of things. I can only hope it doesn't take down the rest of the world with them.

but yeah, More gun control laws there will have zero effect on crime.

Also - the answer to crime, incl. gun related, is parents raising their children to accept personal responsibility for their actions. This has gone by the wayside in the US, where it is all about finding someone else to blame.

Dr D I agree with you, when it comes to guns the US is screwed beyond help.

with "the right to bear arms" amendment, that will never change.

How about bullets becoming more expensive? Charge $5,000 a bullet, much less gun crime. I like Chris Rock's idea.

Dr D has some excellent points. it may not be the answer but it is a definite step in the right direction.

Guns don't kill people - people kill people.

...and either way, if someone really wants a gun, they're going to get it, legally or not. If gun control is more strictly enforced, it'll probably just raise the level of illegal gun trade.

Some very good points have been made against it. I would not say gun control is THE answer... I think it is one of several answers that would have to come together.
Just because there are already too many guns and because somebody who would really want one could get one anyway, it doesn't mean that it should be as easy as nowadays to get one. One can at least try to make it more difficult, even though 100 % success (or even 90 %) isn't possible.

Gun control is ONE of the answers to gun related crimes. Most gun related crimes have to do with the problems that arise from poverty.

there are better ways
for instance, if you edumacate people they would realize that guns are harmful.

like katiemariie said, ariseing from poverty is another way.

I think making the regulations we already have (the ones that are SUPPOSED to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill) more effective would be the better than total gun control.

As with virtually every other prohibition law (alcohol, abortion, etc), advocates for gun prohibition may have the best intentions at heart but I believe that total prohibition cause more problems than it solves. When alcohol was prohibited, people died from drinking dangerous moonshine. When abortions were illigal, women died at the hands of back-alley butchers using coat-hangers.

If gun ownership were illegalized, the black market would explode and there would be no way to monitor who's buying these guns at all. Imagine how bad gun-related crime in this country would be if that were the case.

Gun control is not the answer to these problems. People will always find ways to get guns even if they are illegal. And do you honestly think that criminals are getting them legally? That they are going a registering them? I don't think so. And raising the price on bullets is not going to help either. Bullets are already not cheap. Besides we have the right to bear arms. Its the second amendment.

I don't know... In America, I think it is. You can have a free gun when you order two pizzas, right?

No. Criminals would find a way to get guns, no matter what. Then the citizens would be left without a way to protect ourselves.

It would help. I've really never understood the "how else would you defend yourself?". So, you need a gun in your wardrobe in the off chance that some random serial killer knocks on your door? Lol I hope you know it sounds ridiculous.
In Australia, it's illegal for anyone to have a gun, and guess what, there's hardly any gun crime.
