in self-defence type situations anyone has the right to hit another person, regardless of gender.

The worst thing we can do is let the one who's doing a threatening act be excused just for being a woman. A man has the right to protect himself because it is considered a fundamental human right. It has nothing to do with gender.

There's not too many people who would criticize a woman for punching a man if she felt her safety was in danger, it should be no different the other way around. It's about protecting oneself, not gender.

If you are being beaten to death, or harmfully assailed by a woman (and you are a man) then what's the problem? It's fine for a man to hit another man in self-defense, while it is also okay for a woman to hit a man in self-defense, so why would it not be okay for a man to hit a woman in self defense? It seems like there is only debate for this in terms of woman superiority philosophy and the over-chivalrous man, who deems it wrong to hit a woman in self-defense.

No one should hit anyone.

If a woman can hit a man in self-defense, a man should be able to hit a woman in self-defense too.

If he hits her for no reason, then that's bad. If she's fighting him, he can hit her if he's defending himself.
