The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the spiders from Mars was released June 6, 1972 in the UK and in the US September 1, 1972. David Bowie's first alter ego came from the name of a London tailor's Shop Bowie saw riding on a train. The band the spiders from Mars consisted of Mick Ronson (guitar) Trevor Boulder (bass) and Mick "Woody" Woodmansey (drums). David Bowie declared after a few years that this would be the last Zeigen the spiders from Mars would ever do and in 1973 killed off Ziggy. The album still remains a classic today.
